So, what's the story behind Jason Bean?

Watched part of the IND game over the weekend, and at some point they put in a kid named Jason Bean, former KU QB. He only played maybe one drive, and his stats were 4/4, 52 yds, O TDs/0 INTs, 118.8 Passer Rating.

Imho, he looked decent. The commentators had some interesting things to say about his background including how he was a track star, and how he ended up with the Colts, so I was just wondering what's the story here?

Strong arm, fast runner.Prone to make big mistakes at the worst time. He is a project quarterback.

Came to KU from North Texas…think he even walked on first year. Total project/athlete…crazy fast track star but shied from contact initially. Throws great deep ball. Only got chance to play bc of Jalon Daniels injuries. He owes everything to KU staff for developing him.

Good arm, very fast, decisions are questionable. Started for KU last year after Daniels got hurt. 2130 yards and 18 TD in 8 games. 4-4 record as a starter in season, but went for 449/6/3 in bowl game for the KU win.

Makes the difficult stuff look easy.

Makes the easy stuff look difficult.

That said, he’s a warrior and (by all accounts) a great teammate. All KU fans love him after this last season.

Chris Ballard is Colts GM and his son Cole was freshman walkon backup QB for KU after Bean last year. He undoubtedly watched all KU games last year and thought Bean has something.

Easy to think he is supremely talented but makes too many bad decision. Still I think he has a place in the league as a QB3.

Also from last years KU team draftees - Dominick Puni has already been named starting RG for the 49ers and Austin Booker was awesome in preseason and looks to play a lot at DE for the Bears. Fun fact - Carson Steele and Booker are same grade and were teammates for state champs as seniors in big class Indiana HS football.

Led KU to one of our greatest football wins in history over Oklahoma (while throwing a mind bottling interception in that one, too). I sometimes wonder if he blacks out during high stress moments (some of his INT’s you have to see to believe).

He was going to quit football after his second junior year and the disastrous end for him in the Arkansas bowl game. He reportedly stayed on after being talked into it by our coaching staff and our starting QB, Jalon Daniels.

He then stepped in for an injured Daniels early last year and led KU to our best season in fifteen years. As baffling as his low moments can be, he can make Peyton Manning esque throws and then cut up NFL defenders with reported 4.2 speed at KU. He really led one of my favorite redemption sports stories in recent memory and will forever be a legend in Lawrence.

Seemed like the fanbase allowed him no margin for error. He could have a big lead with several highlight reel plays, but if he made one mistake, they'd crush him.

He was about as good as you could expect a backup QB to be, especially in Lawrence.

He was a good QB for KU, that is still a statement that carries a lot of weight considering their history.

The KU guys covered it. In one drive he'll make 4 goddamned incredible play and 1 inexplicably bad one. If the inexplicably bad one doesn't hurt you, you pretty much win. But sometimes it does.

I have a shitload of respect for him. Dude came in for KU in some really high leverage situations, sometimes unprepared (It would be in the news that Daniels was going to play, sometimes even suited up only to pull the chute in warmups. Bean time), with the expectations on the season for the first time in a hell of a long time. Dude came in and won games and played like a goddamned warrior. Inexplicable shit aside, he's really easy to root for, and I sure as hell am.

If Indy can coach out the inexplicable shit, he'll be damned good.

I'd have thought Indy would have went with a vet given Richardson played like 6 snaps or whatever.

They did. 700 year old Joe Flacco is the backup. Bean is fighting for 3rd string/Practice squad.
