Give me 5 songs that will convince me I should listen to your favorite genre of music

It can be a specific subset of music like 90s West Coast gangster rap or something more broad like rock ‘n roll. Just give me the 5 songs you’d think would best convince a neutral party to start listening to your favorite genre.

I can't pick just one genre so I'll do one song per genre I tend to listen to most, presented in no particular order:

Blockbuster night 1 - run the jewels
Forty six and 2 - Tool
Cough syrup - young the giant
Bring the pain - mindless self indulgence
Seven devils - Florence and the machine

This list is all over the place but so are my musical tastes

Real rap

"You Know My Steez"- Gangstarr
"They Reminisce Over you"- Pete Rock & CL Smooth
"Electric Relaxation"- Tribe Called Quest
"Sky Is The Limit"- Notorious B.I.G
"I Gave You Power"-Nas

Cool thread. My musical tastes have been expanding as i get older and since hip hop has been taken over by bullshit

I don't have a favorite genre. And my top 5 songs changes with my mood.

But here are five songs from the 60's. you might not have heard, or at least might not have heard for a while.

Most of the 60's stuff I listen to is late 60s progressive and psychedelia.

But this isn't that:

These boots are made for walking

rich man's Frug

Give me any Statler Brothers or Don Williams album any time...

I will go old school country too..

"Bed of Roses" (or "Class of '57"- Statler Brothers
"Till The Rivers all Run Dry"- Don Williams
"Chiseled in Stone"- Vern Gosdin
"Brotherly Love"- Keith Whitley (and Earl Thomas Conley)
"A Better Man"- Clint Black

My taste for music goes all over the place....but if I want to have a nice relaxing set of music playing while I am working on something I always go really old school country.

Heck with it. I'll throw this one in for fun. Lot of great memories made with this song in the background.

Instead of 5 for a certain genre, I’ll give you songs that personify each genre I listen to:

Grunge Rock

Alice n Chains-Would
Stone Temple-Pilots Interstate Love Song

Acoustic Rock

Nirvana-Man Who Sold the World
Alice In Chains - Down in a Hole
Pearl Jam - Black

Country

George Strait. All of them. All day.

Folk

Lumineers - Ho Hey, Ophelia
Mazzy Star - Fade

If I just want to relax and feel good about life in general there is nobody I would rather listen to than Don Williams. The Gentle Giant lives up to his nickname.

I really got into the Alternative genre when I lived in Toronto from 2006-2007 listening to their radio station 102.1 The Edge.

Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs, Modest Mouse, Panic at the Disco, Metric, Silversun Pickups, Muse, Portugal the Man, MGMT, Artic Monkeys, Cage the Elephant, The White Stripes, Passion Pit, Gorillaz, Kings of Leon, Blur, The Raconteurs.
