How do you save money?

Everything is so damn expensive that I don’t know how anyone is making ends meet. I just won some money and paid off all credit cards and two vehicles so that helped but I made enchiladas tonight and it cost 22.00! You can’t make a trip to sams without dropping several hundred. Eating out, OMG ! Anyways how do you guys/gals save money on life ?
What are your hacks?

I make about half that and with what my wife makes our combined income is about 130k a year. We live somewhat comfortably but as i said previously, I've had a run of about 15 months lf bad luck with stuff breaking that's $500 here, 1k there ect ect. Thank god I stashed a decent chunk ot change during covid.

I'm pretty frugal though outside of giving myself about $150 a month to bet with. I just wish i could get it through my god damn wife's head that credit card debt isn't good.

Yea, I have made a good deal more in the past 3 years than previously but costs have gone up as well. It mostly works but a few weeks ago I have focused on cutting out some spending. Should not be too bad if I make it a priority.

I am lucky doing freelance photography here and there which can be pretty lucrative and fund a lot of fun things like travel or whatever. That is a big help.

Photography is a very good side gig if you can get business. I've spent countless thousands on pictures since my wedding with the same lady and she is almost always booked.

I don't but I naturally tend to keep my over 100 dollar lunches and 1000 a night hookers to less than 3 a month.

Yeah, I see "emergency fund" pretty often on reddit and other advice like always lease a car that largely just doesn't make sense for many people or doesn't make much sense at all... you'd think some people on there are sitting on tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars and never leave their house.

CLEAR 200k/yr if you really want to go by the rules. So if your monthly expenses are 4k you need to make $300k or better to justify that amount.

Easy peasy.

You mean you haven’t gone to the magical job fairy and asked for a position that would put you in the top 0.1% of earners on the planet? Are you stupid?

Yeah, things like the 50/30/20 rule and 6 months emergency fund are basically so financial advisors don't get sued. I think if you follow those and do stuff like have medical and homeowners insurance and stuff, you'll never have a financial problem.

Most people run leaner than that. Including me. But if a guy followed that, I'd bet he'd never go broke under any circumstance.

I dunno. I always just act like I don't have any money when faced with a purchase and it seems like it works out. I certainly don't exercise the mental bandwidth to manage my personal finances deeply. I'm a nazi about my business financials, but my personal ones less so.

I think those super conservative metrics aren't really necessities, but they aren't without value.

Lease or buy is completely based on the economy. I can’t remember the rules because I never had a car note.

Where the hell did that rule pop up from? I have never heard/read that until today.

People are so stupid. I got pre approval 25 years ago for a 200k mortgage. I bought a 38k house. I never wanted to be the guy with a great looking house and a Beemer in the drive with no furniture and a mattress on the floor.
