I spent a week there a while ago for business. Crossed from Europe to Asia and then back daily although I never realized it. I expected the big black line to be more noticeable when you are that close to it.

Ask them about the Armenian genocide.
They really like to talk about it and discuss how it didn't happen. |

Never made it to Istanbul but have a couple friends from there and they swear by it.
I have though been to Tokyo a few times and it’s unlike anywhere else in the world. Just a unique and beautiful culture. Not sure what you’re traveling situation is like but I’ve always felt Tokyo as a single guy is about the best place you could possibly wind up. |

I haven't been to Instanbul but ai have been to Antalya and a couple other coastal cities. Turkey is a pretty nice country in the main cities. Great food and deserts. The people were always kind and I didn't cross paths with anyone who seemed rude or negative.

My wife and I visited Istanbul about 10 years ago. Would go back in a heartbeat. Loved the city and the history associated with it.

I've only been through been through the airport on the way to Egypt, but I have friends who spent two weeks in Istanbul and they said it was pretty darn fun. More fun that Egypt actually.
Have fun if that's what you choose. |

I did however go and see Sporting Kansas City play in CONCACAF Champions League in Toluca a Liga MX side about an hour and a half to the east. Was a real unique stadium. There was the standard security it was a funny scene there were like...I dunno 4 Kansas City fans for a game that far away but a whole crew of security guards. lol |

It's still a year away, so we haven't done much planning aside from buying a flight. We'll be there maybe 10ish days, so if you have recommendations, I'd love to hear them. In general, I'm thinking we'll spend a few days in Tokyo and then get out for a bit, but it's all flexible.
