Would you make this trade?

https://nflnewsupdates.com/this-chie...yXMNYq_jxbLsXY

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to repeat as Super Bowl champions this upcoming season. The team has to spend some major money on Patrick Mahomes soon, and Chris Jones is also due for a major deal.

Committing funds to one or two players will change the way the Chiefs operate. If the team holds off until 2021 to offer extensions, moves can still be made to acquire top talent this year. One player in particular is New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.

A Chiefs trade for Kamara is not that crazy when looking at the numbers. The team has just over $3 million in cap space (per spotrac) and Kamara is on the final year of his rookie deal and set to earn just over $2 million. He is a free agent in 2021, but can join the Chiefs for one season before hitting free agency.

SHOP NOW: Fanatics has released their 2020 NFL Draft Hats!

A trade package that should sway the Saints would be the Chiefs offering up running back Damien Williams, offensive guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, and a third-round pick. In return the Saints would send Kamara and a fifth-rounder.

This move would see the Chiefs shed nearly $12 million in salary and get an upgrade at running back. The Saints would add Williams to a backfield featuring Latavius Murray and would get a high pick in return. Duvernay-Tardif is under contract through 2022 and started 14 games at guard last season.

The key to this move happening is the Saints not wanting to offer an extension to Kamara in his contract year. If that is the case, the team can get a nice haul in return for a player who would be leaving after the season anyway. As for the Chiefs, they may become unstoppable offensively with Kamara in the backfield.

I know this would never happen but I would do this trade in a heartbeat.
I just don't think the Saints would make that trade.

Then turn around and pay Kamara $12-15 million a year?

That's a ridiculous amount of draft capital and money for a running back.

The Chiefs really need to draft a talented player that can carry the load in 2020 and beyond, not fish for another guy off the scrap heap.
They just tend to favor the scrap heap approach it seems for whatever reason.

Did I say anything of the kind? Why do we have to pay Kamara 12 million/year? I think you're jumping to some conclusions without any facts or data to support them.

Mahomes and our 1st round pick- for the Saints Punter.

Do you pull the trigger on this trade?

ya it's probably a bad deal for us considering you would have to pay him a lot soon and that's no good for us right now. After more thought I give that trade a nope, we've lost too many on the defense and need to use early draft picks to replace them and get better in the interior o-line.

Yes. Kamara is a proven commodity which makes him more valuable than any 3rd round RB you might snag, many are calling for LDT to be released anyways, and D williams doesn't have much value here if we can have Kamara.

Jesus, you guys keep saying "but we'd have to pay Kamara big money". You're missing the point. The scenario doesn't even envision the Chiefs re-signing Kamara. It's basically a one-year rental of a stud RB plus $12M in cap space. For a couple of decent players who unfortunately are pricier than you can currently afford. 30 other teams would jump on that in a heartbeat. Just sit back and look at your offense: a three-wideout set of Hill, Hardman, and Watkins, Kelce at TE, and Kamara at RB? With Pat Mahomes under center? That's ****ing obscenely unfair.

The Saints wouldn't even think of doing this deal, they're a win now team and trading probably their 2nd most impactful offensive player isn't a smart move.

Right. The Saints would be silly to do that deal when Brees is taking his last shot(s) at the title.

Plus, Williams is also in the last year of a contract and LDT is a potential cap casualty anyway (either this year or next).

It also takes a big hole in the line and turns it into a huge ****ing hole. Yes you’re clearing LDT’s cap number but are we just planning on leaving the guard position open? I’m assuming we’d have to go spend some of that cap space on a replacement for LDT. Damien Williams is one of the best values in the league so the running back for running back trade is a definite no. We may be clearing space but I don’t see many options to upgrade at guard for cheap and OG is a much bigger position of need than a RB

Gotta remember that LDT seems to miss half the year every year anyway.
