Tell me about some of your fave ‘Yacht Rock’ songs or bands

Been digging on some Yacht Rock lately. Was a little to young to appreciate it back in the day. What are some of your faves?

Stuff like:

Michael McDonald.
Christopher Cross.
Steely Dan.
Loggins & Messina.
The Doobie Brothers.
Kenny Loggins.
Hall & Oates.
Toto.

Etc.....

So, apparently "Yacht Rock" is now a catch-all term for late-70s, early-80s soft rock? I just brought up a yacht rock playlist on Spotify to see what it was and there is everything from Earth, Wind and Fire to TOTO to Styx to Tears For Fears on it.

Honestly I love every band/singer you guys have mentioned. I also love all 80’s music. Born in ‘76 so weird era to grow up in musically.

I have to admit I didn't know what the hell Yacht Rock was and had to look it up. It's a pretty wide range of music.

Steely Dan is a must anytime on the water.

I've found Dire Straights is a good one not on your list.

No, they're power pop. I didn't know what Yacht Rock was until XM Radio added a Yacht Rock channel I think twice this year. Unfortunately they only do it for six weeks at a time and then it goes to a Billy Joel channel or something else. I really enjoyed when they did that. I also like the 80's channel and they have Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter and Nita Blackwood as a DJ.

One band that we know for ballads and power pop is Ambrosia, hits like How Much I feel, Biggest Part of Me, You're the Only Woman, etc. However I saw them in 1980 when I was visiting some relative in Denver and they played at a theater that had been converted to a concert venue called The Rainbow, it was fantastic. Anyway, I was really impressed that Ambrosia could rock. They played the song "Life Beyond LA" for like 10 minutes and it was great. If Ambrosia comes around you, however don't go, the original singer guitarist David Pack is a solo act and the bass player for whatever reason owns the name.
