Thoughts on first preseason game

What did you like and not like aside from the ST’s new kickoff

Like:
-Jaden Hicks is already the 2nd best safety on this team. He looks awesome
-Punt God is an upgrade
-Even after a few plays you could see Worthy’s speed press the defense
-Liked Nic Jones ball tracking ability outside. He’s better than I thought
-Run defense was very good
-Steele might have made the roster. He looks really good and needed on short situational downs
-tackling needs work but it was backups

Didn’t like:
-FAU is gonna be a rotational player on passing downs. Big improvement as a rusher, still got mauled on run plays
—We are going to miss Sneed. How much? That remains to be seen
-we’ll miss Gay’s speed. That was evident tonight
-Nourzad and Hanson have a long way to go. Rough night for them

anything else?

Is Nic Jones #31? If so he likes to face guard. He got away with it once in the end zone when the ball hit him in the back of his head. Then another time he gave up a TD.

Hicks made several nice tackles. I noticed him early.

Our kick coverage was really bad.

That Steele guy was great. Oladokun looked pretty good.

I don't think a preseason game tells us a single thing about what's going to happen in the regular season. Coaches don't show anything, starters barely play, and most of the guys that have locked down starting positions aren't going to be busting there ass out there. I hate preseason.

Jones got turned around and burned on that bomb TD at the end of the first half. One mistake does not define a player but it looked concerning.

No but it sure tells us more than training camp

I haven't yet watched the 2nd half either.

I'm pleasantly surprised by Steele. Like the Greek Phreak I didn't expect him to dominate the NFL like he did in college. I expected experienced pros to bring him back to earth a little and we wouldn't see him bully people quite the way they did in college.

Well, I was wrong. Steele is a load. He's slower than a Baptist wedding but he's the true dump-truck that Pacheco forces himself to be. I think there's a very "Sausage" role for him on this team if he can block 1/2 as physical as he runs - and that shoul be the expectation.

That's likely the proposition for him: "You bring that big dick energy to leveling LB's in pass pro and there's a spot for you on this roster. Keeping Mahomes off his ass is more important than you dropping a shoulder and putting LB's on theirs in the short yardage game."

Kingsley Suamataia - absolutely neutralized his assignment(s), and played well enough to not work in with the 2nd string.

Thanks. I couldn't watch the game and was wondering how the big guy did. Any other injuries besides Brown?

Nothing serious besides Hollywood's injury, and Pacheco did look more explosive after shedding weight.
