****Our Wide Receivers Suck- Official Thread****

They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

Here is Veach back in August talking about the WR's and how complicated our offense is for young WR's. Same thing happened to Tyreek, he didn't get going until mid-late season in his rookie year.

Anyway the problem yesterday wasn't the WR's it was the tackles.

They have invested in the WR group though. They've paid a FA a mid tier deal and they've got 2 2nd round picks and a first rounder they traded a 3rd for.

They concluded, not us, the front office making the decisions, that they would put resources into the OL financially as well as draft picks and continue to put high end picks on the defense.

They figured that they would need the QB and HC to develop some of the WR's they've brought in. If you don't agree with that, fine. I'm not a huge fan, but the defense seems to be.....****......what a top 3 or 4 defense in the league? I mean it's really good and once you get Omenihu back, the front has an alpha and 3 or 4 other dudes who can really get after it.

Andy has a career of developing WR's of all shapes and sizes. I'd say most are willing to give them enough rope to hang themselves with on that avenue.

The tackles had the penalties for sure, those were killer.

But I'd argue the biggest issues yesterday were the turnovers.

Exactly.

The issue is never seeing what's in front of us and saying it sucks, it's seemingly turning it into a contest of how absurdly we can extrapolate into the future while wallowing in hindsight... whether that's someone underperforming for a game, or the team losing one game, etc.

You've got 3 or 4 weeks to get it going at the WR spot. Then I'm jumping on the "lets trade for a WR" bandwagon.

We had 2 turnovers and 12 penalties and probably half were on the tackles. Yeah the muffed punt was bad but our d held them to 3. Pat's INT was a punt basically but those penalties ruined our offensive flow and put us in alot of long downs.

We also got 2 turnovers on D so that evens out.

The muffed punt is a lost possession.

The INt didn't kill them but Watsons fumble was again, near midfield.

Will that equate to a SB? Probably not, but we have as good a shot as anyone with the team we're fielding because it's not just about the WRs.

I wanted them to make more of an investment in receivers. They didn't do it. It worked for them last year and they're trying to again get by with an aging Kelce and hoping Mahomes can play at an MVP level and elevate a bunch of young guys. You may disagree with it, but surely you can at least see the merit in it?

It's not like Veach and Reid are sitting there completely unaware, but they've rebuilt units on the fly before and I'm sure they think they can do so again. Time will tell.
I think it's less about 'elevating' the young guys and more about 'developing' the young guys, which I think it an important distinction.

Mahomes is going to play at an MVP level, because that's just who he is.

There's talent here; it's just inexperienced. I expect it to grow and get better every week. Meanwhile, the defense is looking killer, and that's great to be able to lean on them a little early while this group of young receivers learns on the fly. Kind of like the secondary last year.

We already have a precedent on this team, in recent history, for what we're doing.

I'm pretty confident this front office and coaching staff are going to be successful, because they almost always are when they commit to things like this.

On the same token most people aren’t saying we have jags. Most people being critical aren’t in panic mode. And many are just offering criticism that goes beyond just drops while being realistic that much of that is part of the lumps in rebuilding. Many recognize that just matching jujus production last year is fine but the urgency to get better at WR is much higher than they like to see from the team and the fans.

So it’s not like critics are all in this same boat of people ripping this organization. Plenty like myself want more priority on WRs while not being in a panic if it doesn’t happen perfectly or right away

Yeah, several of us feel it hasn’t gone far enough. We’ve decided to take a lot of value swings at this. At least we’re doing something. But many disagree given that other teams with already good WRs are throwing their top assets at WR. Many feel we could be doing this with more of our blue chip resources. But whatever… I’m good to see what rashee brings and to start pivoting to offense now that our defense is set.

Yeah well we had a full offseason of predominantly rosy scenarios with minimal criticism.. Some calling this the best wr room we’ve had in years. You get overhype early, overreaction later. It’s a wash.

Utter human shit.

Hope Mahomes marches into Brett’s office tomorrow and demands to beat Burrow’s deal.
That’s from the first 20 odd posts.

I could go on.
And on.
And on.
And even …. On.

Hardman over Metcalf/McLaurin/Johnson

CEH over Higgins and Pittman

Moore over Pickens

Some great decision making right there, we’re now paying the price. Turns out you can’t just lose pro bowlers left and right without drafting playmakers and expect to stay on top.
This ain’t somebody saying that the WR’s were terrible in this one game. Those posts are are understandable and truthful. It’s going immediately to “we coulda had (insert somebody we don’t have, and never will have) instead of CEH, Rice”. etc)

**** that. It’s the here and now. This team will overcome their deficiencies at OT and WR because the Chiefs have no other choice.

Now, if somebody would teach the idea of how to field a punt, yea, I’m all in.

Richie James is easily the biggest disappointment on the whole roster currently. Dude shows NOTHING at WR and is an active liability at PR.
