****Our Wide Receivers Suck- Official Thread****

They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

It's funny watching morons like you think the WR's fell off a cliff. Yes, they dropped passes and ran some routes wrong, but my god, there is plenty of plays out there showing guys open and the ball isn't being thrown. Pat has thrown picks on crucial 1st and 2nd downs and in the RedZone that are so atypical of him you would have laughed if we would have told you he would throw these before the season. It's funny for you to think if Pat doesn't have any "weapons" he is basically Tommy DeVito. That's not very complimentary. Watch other games and the throws QBs are making into tight windows on a consistent basis. He's rarely attempting these throws right now. Again, we love Pat, and he will play better, as he has in the past when he seems to have drifted far away from his best.

Exactly.

It's not about finding Rice open. It's about knowing the reads. Knowing that you have a single safety up there and he's come down on Kelce.

At that point you don't even NEED to find Rice. You know where he's going to be. A lot of throws in the league are 'blind' throws. you're not throwing to a player, you're throwing to a spot and the player gets there. You don't even truly know if he's covered a lot of the time - you just know that he shouldn't be based on what you've seen from the coverage so you take a calculated risk.

It's the same thing we used to barbecue Cassel for - if you find them open, they won't be by the time the ball gets there. NFL open doesn't mean running free in space. It means you have the leverage you expect and the coverage you're looking for so you throw the ball and your target breaks into space as its getting there before attacking the football.

That play looks kindergarten simple. Read 1: Kelce. If the safety crashes on Kelce, hit read 2. If somehow Kelce is taken out of the route without the safety coming down, look for your outlet to pop and if he's not there, take off or throw it out the back of the end zone.

He just didn't run his reads. He left a pocket that had space for him to operate in and an easy throwing lane that opened up right where you noted - toss it to the right side of the N and it's a simple little pitch and catch.

He didn't even make a bad read - he made NO read. He thought he saw an opening up the chute and he freelanced. Is that hero ball? Is he trying to do to much there? Yeah, that's a seemingly likely answer.

Run the offense, Pat. Your HC is good at this.

Not his first time since being a Chief. It's almost like he gets bored. I don't knows any other explanation for his last two picks which cost us games.

Let's assume for the sake of argument that the WR room is full of 'guys that wouldn't see the field on almost any other NFL team...'

Pat's gonna HAVE to do precisely that. Or we aren't going to win anything. The roster's set and the deadline has past. This is what we have and are going to have going forward.

And we've SEEN him elevate players. He simply isn't doing it right now.

So your options are to hope he's able to recapture that form or just...quit, I guess. Give up. Season's over.

There are, every week, points/yards left on the field by the pass catchers. There are also points/yards left on the field by the QB. It is an open question as to whether or not this WR room has the capacity to cut down on their half of that equation.

We know Mahomes can.

So what's the upshot of shouting into the void?

At this point you just play to the limitations. These WRs aren’t going to consistently hit their spots and Patrick isn’t ever gonna trust it until you get guys who can. So you adapt. I think the chiefs have simplified the offense and are relying more on timing. I don’t love that it takes away from mahomes’ desire to create but for now he needs to just lean into it until we get him reinforcements in the offseason. I think that’s frustrating for him but he’s gotta just do it

Meantime… I don’t always buy that we’re saving things until later but I really wonder if we are this year. It feels like the year we need to open every bag of tricks as a bandaid to get us through the year and we have a lot we can play with. I continue to love what Jacksonville did and all their creative screens and motions and misdirection. I wonder if we’re just waiting on that. Maybe this weekend will be a sign, since it feels like one we might go balls to the wall on given the rivalry

He's been doing that for years. It's not a stretch to ask him to keep doing it.

There is no reason to hold anything back this week.

Execute Buffalo with every trick you might pull on them in a postseason game.

Then you don't have to worry about them until next season.

A win here practically eliminates Buffalo.

You’re the one assuming he needs to do more. Not me.

Now in a single elimination game could he play even better? Sure. We saw the AFC Championship where he had to score points with MVS and nobody.

Expecting he can do that every game is not realistic.

So what needs to happen now is to remove Skyy Moore from the field and limit throws to MVS on critical downs.

Get Rice and Watson and Toney and Gray as your passing game targets.

Run the ball out of two tight end sets and play action when appropriate.

Mahomes will also have to take off when there’s space because with limited WRs and tackles that get flagged one holding call kills a drive.

Play defense , let Mahomes game manage and try to win like an older Alex Smith team.

If the expectations are that he can't do that, maybe he should be taking the amount of the cap he's making?

Name the top NFL offenses that have a similar WR room to ours.

He needs to play better and the WRs need to play better. Kinda mind blowing that you don't realize that. He has the highest cap hit in the NFL, so I'm not really gonna listen to any excuses people have for him. He needs to play like he did last year and the offense would be top 3.

You keep bringing this up and it has nothing to do with Mahomes' own problems. He's the highest paid player in the league and he doesn't look like that ATM.
