***Official 2024 Paris Olympics Thread***

Watching the Olympics? Post about it here.
A quick intro....

2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony: Start time, TV channel, date, live stream, key athletes and events

The 2024 Olympic Games begin July 26 and will be televised on NBC through Aug. 11

It's the time once again. It's time for the best athletes in the world to come together and crown champions in their various sports. The 2024 Olympic Games are set to begin this week in Paris as the world descends upon France. While there will be some qualifying events taking place earlier in the week, things officially kick off on Friday with the Opening Ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Friday and feature several firsts, including being the first ceremony to be held outside of a stadium, as well as a parade of athletes held on the Seine River with boats for each national delegation. The boats will travel along a 3.7-mile stretch, passing by many iconic Parisian landmarks along the way. The ceremony will conclude with remarks from French President Emmanuel Macron.

Expect another gold-filled summer for the Americans as Team USA will be represented in just about every event over the course of the Games. Some of the biggest stars are back, including gymnast Simone Biles, decorated swimmers Katie Ledecky and Caleb Dressel, as well as track athletes Noah Lyles and Sha'carri Richardson. Plus, the men's and women's basketball teams look to extend their dominant runs at the games with more gold.

There will be two flag bearers for the United States when the team takes the boat down the Seine River -- LeBron James and tennis star Coco Gauff. The 2023 US Open champion was stunned by the news when it was revealed to her on Wednesday.

"I never thought in a million years I would have the honour of carrying the American flag for Team USA in the opening ceremony," Gauff said in a statement.

"I could not be more proud to lead my teammates with LeBron as we showcase our dedication and passion on the biggest stage there is."

Here's how to watch the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony and highlights from the first week of competition.

Close, but no banana Froggies!!

Despite some of the most one-sided reffing I've ever seen, the USA Women's BB team wins an 8th consecutive gold medal!!

I don't think I've ever seen a game finish like that. Pretty wild to lose because you took a 2 point shot thinking you were taking a 3.

I'm really surprised they didn't call Gabby's shot a 3.

Thank God they kept Plum in during the second half. Jackie Young should get French citizenship after that game.

USA basketball needs to seriously reevaluate how they coach these teams. Kerr and Reeve got absolutely depantsed because they weren't even attempting to run sets.

This is exactly what I was talking about. US womens soccer won gold against strong competition because they made competitive decisions. Cut Alex morgan and added korinne alpert despite objections since she's their version of Harrison butker. Women's basketball added taurasi who isn't good anymore just to give her flowers and kept Caitlin clark off for the dumbest social reasons even though she's not actually controversial. And they almost lost even though international competition is vastly inferior, unlike most sports like men's basketball.

It reveals what everyone already knows. The old wnba is boring and broken. Clark is built different. The women's team is going to look 100 times better and will actually be fun to watch next go around with clark, bueckers, juju Watkins and angel reese. Thankfully we snuck by on this but kind of like women's soccer you hope this is just a wake up call and that social activism can finally stop ruining the sport.

I didn’t know that USA Basketball was so desperate to start poaching players with no ties to the country but after watching how close these 2 basketball tournaments were perhaps they should.

I don't think clark should have made it on merit alone. But she definitely would have added pace and a three point option. At worst, she would have replaced taurasi and added depth to guards who couldnt score for shit. But more than anything, there will one day be a 30 for 30 about the mind numbingly stupid business decision to waste the opportunity to grow the game by shelving the most marketable player the game has ever seen in the one game or tournament where millions of Americans could have been watching. At worst they make a shitload of money for the game, grow fans, and clark plays a few bench minutes during their many blowouts

This wasn't a talent issue. It was a scheme issue. How many times did you see someone drive directly into the defender's chest and throw up a terrible shot?

Merely having a set team that has plays and a defensive system would have made them eons better. Almost no off ball movement and terrible spacing on offense.

They really do need to lower the rim in women’s basketball. It’s a terrible product to watch.

It still wouldn't make it marketable. This is the only time I'll watch women's BBall at all.
