Just looked at Taylor’s article. It says 4 years and $72 million on the extension. That’s $18M per year. But Creed still has one cheap year left on his rookie deal, so it’s an overall average of about $15.4 million per year for 5 seasons.

Creed is signing early, the deal is for what the center market will be in a year, not now. 13 million won't be top of the market then.

It appears to be like some of Veach's other contracts. Right now everyone is "OMG they gave him how much?" and in a couple of years they'll be saying "OMG he's way underpaid compared to -----'s deal that was just signed. NFL salaries are like land prices, very rarely do they go down.

So it’s a 4 year extension that kicks in after this year?

FWIW I listened to Verderame’s Patreon discussing this and he said the Chiefs absolutely want Trey Smith. Of course that’s hard to figure out but they want to get him done.
They wanted to keep Tyreek but he got greedy. Wonder if Trey could stay at a good but not insane offer. |

Now that we've locked up an elite center I expect us to do QB sneaks and run under center on short yardage.
But we won't |

I'm good with this. He's the best in the game by far, and he's the anchor of the OL.
