Toney, not Rice. Rice SHOULD be that guy but he's currently relegated to bubble screen and slant duty.

Cooks was someone I'd have been happy to add. But there's gotta be a reason he keeps switching teams despite being productive. There's something amiss there.

But sitting here pumping off the Ravens for drafting Rashod Batemen is...interesting. Dude is their version of Skyy Moore only if we'd have taken Skyy Moore in the 1st round.

Skyy Moore has actually been more productive than Bateman.

I don't think you'll get any pushback from many here.

I think the issue some have - let's just say that I have - is that we've seen him play at a level for an entire season where that margin simply wasn't necessary. He played at an all-time level last season.

I presumed, as he enters his prime, that it was a new normal for him. That the guy he was last season would be the guy he is going forward until age or injury takes it away from him.

I was wrong. He's not playing at that level.

Was it a fair expectation to have of him? Well...certainly doesn't seem that way. But was it a reasonable one? I think it was, yes. I don't think it is unreasonable to say that a 2 time MVP who sure as hell appeared to look like Neo controlling the matrix last season had established that as his new normal.

Guess not. Seems like it's more realistic to say that his baseline performance is probably something like 2021 - this season feels very similar to 2021. Some years he'll be better than that. I don't imagine he'll ever really be much worse.

That's how you plan your seasons going forward. That you'll get 2021/2023 versions of Mahomes - a HoF quarterback who can be mentioned with the GOATs, but who isn't going to play at his GOAT level every season.

Brady didn't. Rodgers didn't. Montana didn't. None of 'em truly have. I just kinda hoped our boy would be different.

Live and learn.

It should have been a more urgent priority before the trade deadline.

Remember the dumbshits here who were vehemently against the Chiefs trading for a WR upgrade (i.e. not just bringing back Hardman) actually thought that MVS, Skyy Less and Toney would improve/“develop” as the season progressed.

If anything those three have gotten WORSE.

Toney is the only one with any legitimate upside from that group and he's played about 1/3rd of the snaps of the other 2. I do not understand their lackadaisical approach to the trade deadline given how reluctant they are to even put Toney on the field. If that was the case they needed to be far more aggressive.

Fair take.

And on the flip side, if we get 2021 postseason Mahomes, who was destroying everything in his path until the second half of the AFCCG...we go back to the Super Bowl.

The hope has to be that 2023 Mahomes can perform like 2021 Mahomes in the postseason.

We kind of are though? Noah Gray has 422 snaps on the year. Right up there with our 'leading' receivers.

Moore is worse, especially on a rate basis.

MVS is MUCH worse. Last year the deep connections were inconsistent. This year they're non-existent.

Toney was getting more looks downfield last season and seemed to be developing in the offense. In week 1 that's how he was used. And from week 1 on he's been a non-factor. Yes, that's absolutely a regression.

You don't have to go from All-Star to scrub to have regressed. You can go from mediocre to bad or from bad to worse. That's what we've seen from pretty much our entire WR corps.

I don't even think we need that level to at least make it to the Super Bowl. This is the weakest field of AFC teams in a long, long, time.

The Chiefs should go with 12 personnel on the majority of their snaps.

Gray in.

MVS and Skyy out.
