He'll pretend he's not bitching, but anybody that pays attention can see the passive aggressiveness.

Every time that dude posts an emoji like that he's being a passive agressive bundle of sticks.

By the time the Cardinals had cut Hopkins, the money had been spent. We'd signed Omenihu, drafted Rice, signed Smith. I absolutely believe that the Chiefs intended to sign Hopkins with money freed up from a Jones extension - didn't happen that way.

"Veach mishandled this" assumes a degree of omniscience here. It's just dumb.

You play the cards you have as you have them. You go out there and say "Nah, I'm going to slow-play the DL and the OT position just in case Hopkins becomes available..." and all that does is discourage the Cardinals from cutting him and you may end up in a situation where you HAVE to trade for him and suddenly his agents play hardball because you gave up draft capital to get him.

There was simply no way to ever know that Hopkins was going to be out there at the price point he was when those initial signings were made.

Jakobi Myers is literally the only real gripe from the off-season.
And what would Myers look like here without Devonte Adams...

And again, we didn't lose any superstar talent. We lost JuJu Smith Schuster, who was ungodly mediocre. This idea that we should've seen the loss of an average, at best, WR as something that would necessitate the addition of some premier option just ignores the reality on the ground.

They needed to replace average. And not by Week 1 but by the post-season. That's EXACTLY what they've done with Rashee Rice. In fact, they've upgraded on JuJu with him.

This team doesn't build for week 1. It doesn't build for week 8 or really ANYTHING in the regular season. They build a roster for the post-season. And in so doing, they determined that the only true loss from their WR room was a gimpy possession WR who they could easily replace with Rice - they were correct. In making that decision it allowed them to upgrade their OL and their DL while maintaining the same talent level at WR that they won a SB with.

The only question is whether or not that talent would develop. In Rice, it very clearly has.

Right this very second their WR room is, at WORST, even with the WR room that won a championship last season. And there's still room for improvement as the season progresses.

Veach most assuredly didn't 'badly mishandle' the roster this offseason. He had a clear plan, executed it exceptionally well and it's coming to fruition as the season progresses. It's only ever been the end-point that matters for this organization - where they are in week 17. And they're going to be exactly where they wanted to be: A team with a similar or slightly improved WR corps to the 2022 model with upgrades on the OL, DL and added experience leading to improvements in the secondary.

This is a better football team than last year's squad. To say Veach 'mishandled' it is just the height of hubris and is frankly, ignorant as ****.

Most of the WR's on this team would not see the field elsewhere. To think otherwise is a display of your ignorance of what other NFL teams have at the position.

No team has world beaters at every position, especially one that has a QB contract attached to it.

The big miss of this WR core is Skyy. If he's even average level this likely isn't a problem but he provides next to nothing.

Oh well shit happens. They're still a top 3 team that will most likely be back in the Super Bowl again

Well that's not even the slightest bit responsive to anything I said, but keep beating your chest - you're doing great work here.

Omniscience not necessary, anyone with a few brain cells firing could see it. And DHop was talked about as a guy that could come free WAY before he was signed.

They also could have just gave Cardinals a pick and secured him. Even if they wanted to wait till he was released they had options.

Simply convert 15 million of Mahomes roster bonus into a war chest and have it ready for him OR someone else at the trade deadline. Not being ready to sign a vet WR when they had nothing but MVS paid was poor planning and roster management.

Having a dependable target opposite Kelce to take pressure off was more important than signing a 3rd pass rusher or backup defensive players.
Whom are you referring?

Omenihu, Tranquill, and Edwards obviously.

Which makes it an absolutely reeruned ****ing take.

You would think the additions on defense played no role in them becoming elite.

Not to mention we have our "dependable target opposite Kelce".

Yep, most reasonable Chiefs fans would rather have those 3 and this defense, and be 8-3 with the offense stuggling with Patrick Mahomes, than an average defense with last years offense and being 8-3... Much more upside with the current scenario...
