They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

The WRs have been horrible but I don't think there's been a big shift. The difference is we're developing defensive players better than we're developing offensive players. I'll go back to it but Toney's a 1st round pick. Rice and Skyy are 2nd round picks. We have 3 guys out there at WR who are high picks in their first 3 years in the league and should be developing into contributors if not star players, and they're all just a step above gadget players at best. We'll probably end up drafting another WR high this year. They aren't out there giving Mahomes guys like Pringle and Robinson and going cheap on it. We're probably going to have 4-5 guys on the roster next year who are serious investments at the WR position.

The difference is Veach is absolutely smashing his defensive picks at LB and DB and it's turned this defense into a force because you had mid and late round picks like Chenal, Sneed, Watson, Williams out here killing it. Then his big picks like McDuffie and Cook are playing at really high levels and turning into great players. Our high round WRs haven't gotten to average yet.

Toney got hurt in camp.

I like the talent but we all know he's not dependable to be healthy.

Moore never took a step forward.

He never showed anything last year and it is crazy that they liked what they saw from him in practice. This makes their WR evaluation skills really off because teams miss guys in the draft but normally you know what a guy is when he is in the pros.

Rice has looked good when he's gotten chances.

Ok. But the coaches don't believe he is ready yet.

James has been hurt.

Yes, they signed a cheap, small vet who is easily injured.

Watson has been hit or miss this year.

Guy was a practice squad player for every other team.

There were people that said before this year started that this WR group had a low floor and a high ceiling. We're seeing the low floor right now.
It never had a high ceiling.

Sneed looked like a 1st round pick the moment he stepped on the field.

McDuffie was a 1st round pick they traded up for.

Yes, our DB picks are better but the there was never anything to develop with CEH, Hardman, or Moore. They are what they are.

I'll say this - the parallels between this game and Detroit are staggering.

And it goes all the way to Mahomes playing 3 poor quarters and then when he finally made some good plays, his WRs failed him.

Because for 80% of that football game, Mahomes was not playing good football. At all. And it'll get lost in the Watson/Kelce/MVS ****ery down the stretch, but Mahomes had a BUNCH of chances to put that game away and simply didn't do so.

This is another time where we're putting it all on 'his weapons' while not really acknowledging that he wasn't doing himself any favors at all throughout that game.

Going into the season, you pretty know we’ll lose between 2 and 5 regular season games. If disaster strikes, then more.

Given that, would you want the losses to be “got beat by the better team” or “beat ourselves”?

“Beat ourselves” is correctable. Frustrating for sure, but a few plays that we expect to make are all that keep us from being undefeated right now.

I expect to still finish 13-4 with wins being closer than we’d like and 1 more wtf game. That likely gives us the 1 seed and a great chance to get back to the Super Bowl.

I just don’t see Mahomes struggles lasting. Maybe I’m naive or too optimistic. The greats just don’t stay down for very long.

We'll get through because the defense is good and they can manufacture points against inferior teams.

The run game adjustment I saw last night if used against Buffalo will destroy them.

Feed Pacheco in that counter play and he's going to bust off some 30-50 yard runs.

The issue was never whether we would make the playoffs but if we made ourselves vulnerable to be sent home early.

Running the ball on an elite run defense was a major positive from last night.

Also, were we better on short yardage than usual? I don’t remember Andy getting cute on any of those.

Mahomes has also basically played half an extra season over the last six when you count the playoffs.

That cannot be easy to be mentally "on" for an extended period of time.

Our running game was excellent.

They did make adjustments during the bye and that was one of them.

Problem for us was Mahomes mentionted Philly sold out to stop run in 2nd half and our passing game failed.

Part of figuring this out is most likely Andy going full WCO the way he did with Alex. It's basically the same thing Denver is doing.

More running, a bunch of shorter passes, more schemed passes. Very similar to our first scoring drive. More passes to the flat, more screens etc

I agree with this plan. And you still have the opportunity to get chunk plays off Mahomes ad libbing, and play action.
