Thoughts on the new kickoff rules

Mine so far:

Butker shorting kicks is like driving a Corvette on a gravel road

The NFL made something so simple-so confusing

Going into the season with the attitude of "We will just have to see what happens. There are scenarios we have not thought of yet" is the stupid thing I have heard in football. It would not be a good business plan, or educational plan. But but it seems that is how everything is approached today.

Roast away.

It's not about being confusing. It's just a terrible, awful, gimmick that evens things a bit against a team like the Chiefs that don't need fluke plays to win. POINT MARGINS are so thin in thus league that yes this stupid rule can and will change game outcomes. That is in excusable

Besides all the people saying it's confusing, but yeah I get your point... we want other teams to have to drive 75 yards after every kickoff with their not-Mahomes quarterback while the Chiefs don't risk fumbles or injury on returns.

I don't think it'll be as dramatic of a difference as people are thinking right now (imagine that, the internet prematurely freaking out over something)... and of course, all it takes is one return late in a game in the playoffs for the change to make a huge difference, but you can still kick it out of the end zone if you're afraid of a huge return.

And it's not really a gimmick... they used to have kickoff returns in the NFL and nobody seemed to care. Hell, people seemed to care more about the NFL potentially getting rid of them all together than something like this.

Football players playing football on a football field may change the outcome of football games? I can see why that would be a problem.

This is only bad for the Chiefs if they are worse at it than other teams, I don't see this as being an equalizer for bad teams or increasing parity. If opposition teams give Mahomes the ball on the 30 every kick off, he is going to average 40 points a game.

You know as well as I do if that starts to become a thing they’ll make it a penalty to kick it into the endzone. Force teams to put the ball in play.

I would just kick deep every time. With the way it is set up. The teams almost always get to the 30 if not further. No reason to chance bigger returns for the same field position. Let alone penalties.

The only asterisk would be using your best players on kickoffs. But then injury increase.

I thought it was entertaining. Reid should be doing kickoffs, though, not Butker.

Anything that increases variance and keeps the ball out of Mahomes’ hands is a bad thing for the Chiefs.

The NFL had record TV viewership last year so obviously fans didn’t mind watching mostly touchbacks on kickoffs.

This gimmicky bullshit is trying to solve/address a non-problem.

Seems like NASCAR move. Completely dumbshit and completely change the way a part of the game is played that makes more questions than answers.

They should have either just moved the ball back further on KO's. Or better yet make rules that you kick out of the endzone, the receiving team starts at the 40. Down it in the endzone for a TB, start at the 20 like it used to be or **** it, make it the 15.

I barely noticed the difference.

Who cares, it's kickoffs. Who is caring about kickoffs so much they get mad about this. Like, whatever. If it creates less CTE do whatever you want. It's laughable to get mad

Never seen them get something so seemingly wrong

Based on the rules and the tweet above this was a touchback.

Looks rather ****tarded so far.

I want our HOF field goal kicker lining up and driving it through the uprights every single time. I don't want him ****ing around with dumb shit during pointless kick offs and damn sure don't want him exposed to making tackles.

If our team sucked ass, our qb blowed goats, and our kicker was a midget, I'd love gimmick bullshit created to let losers have a better chance at winning.
