****Our Wide Receivers Suck- Official Thread****

They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

We didn't say it is how they started but what they had been doing recently.

I would say Toney consistently getting wide open against Detroit showed he is on another level talent wise than any other WR we have besides the rookie Rice.

Too bad he kept dropping the ball that game but the load management probably happened after he got nicked up again and they were terrified of not having him for the playoffs.

He had a toe injury about 6 weeks ago which added onto it. IMO they brought back Hardman not just bc he was familiar with the offense, but bc he could play Toney's role while he was healing both at WR and returner.

They've got a solid set of weapons IMO. Kelce, Rice and Pacheco/McKinnon need to be the focal point. Toney and Hardman are good complimentary players (screens, jet sweeps, crossers) and MVS/Watson are the deep threats.

They need to focus on Rice and Kelce at WR first to draw attention. Then spread the ball at times to loosen coverage.

They need someone better than Rice for the playoffs or we are playing with fire.

Assuming that they get Toney for the playoffs to me it is

Kelce

Toney

Rice

With MVS as a vertical decoy and Hardman as your gadget guy.

No one else should be getting isolation plays or first looks.

I guess we will see this week if he still doesn't get many snaps.

Quote:
Since Kansas City acquired Mecole Hardman in a trade with the New York Jets, Toney has been less and less involved on offense. He played 13 and 12 snaps, respectively, in Weeks 7 and 8 before seeing that number drop to just seven in Germany versus the Miami Dolphins. That marked a season-low total for a game in which Toney was perceived to be healthy, raising questions about whether this was a long-term play by the Chiefs and more of an effort to keep him safe for the stretch run of the season. Reid somewhat confirmed what many have been suspecting.

"Listen, he played seven plays last week," Reid said. "We can play him more than that and still be okay. And then we just keep an eye on his leg and make sure that we're repping that out the right way and let him keep progressing as we go here throughout the year. That's the important part."

Among all pass catchers on the Chiefs, Toney ranks fourth in receptions (20) this season. Despite that, he's ninth in yards and has a lowly 46.4% success rate. Instead of using him like a true receiver, Kansas City has leaned on Toney to be more of an opening script or situational player while fielding him for passes near the line of scrimmage. His current role-workload combination isn't what anyone expected it to be coming into the year.

If load management includes not running him out of the backfield then I'm onboard

Yeah, I'd say that's a pretty bad miss on an evaluation.

Sorry, but this is ****ing stupid.

Don't waste one of the 53 if you're not going to even use him. If he's hurt, shut his ass down.

This whole thing stinks.

Yeah....I don't buy it.

If he's hurt, don't play him. If you can't play him because you're afraid he's gonna get hurt, well that's just as bad.

It's bad regardless that they didn't make a move when this is what they had:

Kadarius Toney-Talented guy that can change a game with a few touches but is constantly nicked up, nursing something.

Skyy Moore-Barely saw field last year and when given volume did not look like a starting WR at all.

MVS- A guy that runs fast down the field but can't track a football. He's tall too but that does little for him.

Richie James- Tiny slot WR that has been mostly injured.

Rashee Rice-Talented but a rookie from a small school.

If they didn't make a move, it's for a reason. So they seem to think that's a good enough group.

If Toney is only playing 7 snaps in a game at this point in the season… that’s more than just injury recovery load management.

The only wild card I just listed is Toney.

He's the only one that can move the needle but that seems incredibly risky trusting your repeat SB run on a guy constantly nicked up or a small school rookie WR learning the NFL.

Has he even been listed on weekly injury reports? I haven't paid close attention.

Before the Miami game he was listed as having an ankle injury and as a full practice participant all week.
