Thoughts on the new kickoff rules

Mine so far:

Butker shorting kicks is like driving a Corvette on a gravel road

The NFL made something so simple-so confusing

Going into the season with the attitude of "We will just have to see what happens. There are scenarios we have not thought of yet" is the stupid thing I have heard in football. It would not be a good business plan, or educational plan. But but it seems that is how everything is approached today.

Roast away.

I have no idea why any other kicking strategy would be employed. Perhaps early on there will be some confusion over the rules and you might get a team to have a "Mecole Moment" like we did yesterday.
We don't play the 49ers every year though so my guess would be most teams teach their players the rules and have this down after a few weeks.

A terrible, pathetic gimmick that can potentially swing games against lesser teams

I can understand just wanting to get rid of the kickoff entirely but the people who want to go back to the old system make no sense to me. I'll take anything over what was essentially a non-play 75% of the time last year.
You want returns? Keep it tye same and Have them kick from further back. Simple as that. Oh wait they're scared of injuries so now we get a cheap, awful, pathetic gimmick play

I really thought I was going to like it, but what I've seen so far is pretty uninspiring. It has potential, but everyone looks pretty uncomfortable early on, which is understandable.

I'm willing to give it some time as the players and coaches figure it out.

Every team is going through the same adjustment, nobody is currently benefiting from the new change.

I guess the next two games are the time to get the screw-ups out of the way and get it figured out. Lets hope the officials get it figured out so that somebody get a safety and the ball because an official had head-in-rectum disease.

True, but it seemed like all game that Jaxonville's backups were quicker and played better than ours.

Just give them the ball at the 30.

Will getting the ball 5 yards closer make a big difference on whether they score with that possession? I'd bet the data says no.

I assume we are seeing the worst possible outcomes for this at the moment, teams are still learning and also won't want to put any tricks/aggressive return strategies out there in training camp.

I think I like it so far, assuming it just gets better from here. It's actually a play where something can happen and is worth watching unlike kickoffs previously.

The ball is live and has to be returned, but if you kick the ball out of the side then its a penalty and the other team will get it at the 40, so there's no incentive angling too far for a corner.

The data says starting at the 30 rather than the 25 is actually very significant for an offense.

You would think the NFL was forcing fans to solve differential equations given all the comments about how super confusing this is for everyone.

Well in fairness, they have practiced their balls off in the summer heat for the last 3 weeks and then get on a flight and head to steamy Jacksonville. Reid works his guys harder than anyonhe in camp and his preseason record doesn't mean shit.
