Thoughts on the new kickoff rules

Personally not a fan at all. I am more than ok with touchbacks and the new kickoff seems like if you break past the first few guys you’re gone. Worried there will be more injuries because of it.

Try it again: By the way, the Mecole Hardman safety should not have been ruled safety. It should have been a touchback, per Andy Reid/official afterwards. The ball landed in the end zone. That's a dead ball once it's touched/downed after it does so*

I was wondering - I swore the rule said that if the ball landed in the EZ it was a dead ball and comes out to the 30. It must land in the landing zone for it to be a live ball.

It was in the end zone

That was a 9 point swing and did us in for that game.

True, but it seemed like all game that Jaxonville's backups were quicker and played better than ours.

Well in fairness, they have practiced their balls off in the summer heat for the last 3 weeks and then get on a flight and head to steamy Jacksonville. Reid works his guys harder than anyonhe in camp and his preseason record doesn't mean shit.

Id just kick it through the back of the endzone. Not much difference in the opponent starting at the 25 vs starting at the 30.

I have no idea why any other kicking strategy would be employed. Perhaps early on there will be some confusion over the rules and you might get a team to have a "Mecole Moment" like we did yesterday.
We don't play the 49ers every year though so my guess would be most teams teach their players the rules and have this down after a few weeks.

You know as well as I do if that starts to become a thing they’ll make it a penalty to kick it into the endzone. Force teams to put the ball in play.

I really thought I was going to like it, but what I've seen so far is pretty uninspiring. It has potential, but everyone looks pretty uncomfortable early on, which is understandable.

I'm willing to give it some time as the players and coaches figure it out.
