They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

But again, what's done is done. Like I said, if they're going to continue with the same squad without a trade, we need Rice and Watson taking the vast majority of WR snaps. They've proven they can be counted on and can do most of the things we need our WRs to do. Then next year we can draft a WR in the first or target one in FA.

That TD drop was just so damn discouraging. I mean it’s a tough catch, but an NFL WR has to make that play.

That's an odd example you have here as the issue in the Bengals game was the flurry of WR injuries. Talk about needing a playmaking WR badly for a game, that'd be the one.

I view it like this:

Our secondary w/o McDuffie vs our WR room w/o Tyreek Hill, which would create the greater difference?

I believe that a corner trio consisting Williams/Sneed/Watson would still be a very good corner trio.

Meanwhile, our WR room w/o Tyreek.....well....we're still looking for answers there aren't we.

Sure, if it were really just Tyreek vs. McDuffie this makes sense.

It's not.

Well, it's the only thing we have any direct certainty of. Every other argument on the matter is simply a wild guess because we don't know how they would've manipulated the cap otherwise.

You said the Chiefs wouldnt have Omenihu. Maybe. Could also be that the Chiefs WOULD have Omenihu and just not Tranquil and James. It's impossible to say.

That's a Chiefsplanet thing. Every year there's a contingent of posters who, for whatever reason, would rather trade a star player than pay him a 2nd contract. Yeah, don't count me in that contingent. Like i said, i woulda kept Hill....

That's fair. One thing that I know for sure is that the Chiefs would have multiple holes, and certainly not a top 5 defense, because you can't pay Tyreek and field a balanced team.

It's just not realistic.

We gave Hill a second contract though? That was his third, and NFL history has shown those are almost always a poor investment.

George Pickens makes that play. Just sayin'. Yeah, beating a dead horse here and everyone is tired of hearing it. But that was a monumental **** up that even an arm chair GM like me could see a mile away.

If there is one area to be concerned about, though, it’s the Chiefs receiving corps—a group that gives the team absolutely nothing on key passing downs. Overall, Kansas City ranks 26th in EPA per play on throws to receivers, according to TruMedia. On passing downs, which include second- and third-and-long situations, Mahomes is averaging minus-0.05 EPA when throwing to his wideouts. That’s where you’ll find a significant difference between the 2023 passing game and the one that led the league in just about every metric in 2022.

Mahomes’s EPA Average on WR Targets, 2022 Vs. 2023 (via TruMedia)
Position Season Late Downs Early Downs
WR 2022 0.59 0.24
WR 2023 -0.19 0.22
JuJu Smith-Schuster emerged as the go-to guy when defenses sold out to stop Travis Kelce last season, and Kansas City has been unable to find a replacement for him. If the Chiefs look to make a deadline deal for a receiver, they don’t need to sell out to land a star. They just need to find a chain-mover—maybe even Smith-Schuster himself, who might be available after he got off to a slow start in New England. That should be more than enough to get this offense where it needs to go.

26th in the NFL with Patrick Bleeping Mahomes throwing to you?!!!

Disgustingly bad.

Look, I'm good with the tyreek trade and always have been. But c'mon now with the slander that he makes our offense worse. We planned for juju to play off of him and likely still land Pacheco. Yeah that easily puts us over the top against Cincinnati... Handily.
