They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

480 something yards and 31 points. That's plenty. Getting worried because a couple of drives didn't result in points? Dude, it's not Madden. It's the NFL.

If you are expecting the 2018 offense, you need to adjust your expectations. Mahomes is a huge chunk of the cap. The only star WR's we're going to have for the foreseeable future are the ones we're able to draft and develop.

They have given Mahomes a great defense and a really good offensive line. The rest we're trying to develop.
You’re still gongi to have to eventually pay some of those WRs you develop though. You can’t expect them to rinse and repeat every 2-3 years at WR. If Rice continues on his current trajectory and turns into a 1,200 yard/8 TD a year type you’re going to have to pay him as such. Letting him walk and going through another half season of growing pains on offense probably isn’t the best idea.

Nothing meant disingenuous, just facts.

Clay was half right in his last post - the offense does disappear from time to time.

They were far from great in the Denver game (30th ranked pass defense) and struggled in the 2nd half against LA (32nd)

Did they do enough to win? Absolutely.

But 2 great quarters out of 8 against 2 of the 3 worst pass defenses in the league is not "getting better every week" IMO. 26 points in 6 quarters.

Again, I'm not concerned - but pointing out why I *think* Zilla is arguing with y'all.

Sounds like they did exactly what you want, but you're still bitching...
Nope, punting and punting and punting on one of the worst defenses in the NFL was not what I wanted.

Probably. And probably when you're not paying Kelce and Jones. Or Thuney. Because you've gone younger in those spots, so you can pay Rice, should he show out.

It's a balancing act.

This is where the balance is right now; a top five defense paired with what, despite all of the bitching, is a top five offense.

That's a pretty damned good job of building a championship caliber team.

It's all you do.

So just read your posts where you are arguing that anyone who wants to add one more WR wants a shit defense or that anyone who wants to spend a few million more on offense wants to put the Chiefs in the same salary cap situation as the Rams when they won.

Your position can be defended without making up stuff that people aren't saying.

I pretty firmly believe that the idea of 'second half adjustments' is largely a myth.

These guys spend a week gameplanning for their opponent. Then they get 20 minutes to shit, hydrate, re-tape and get back out there.

What possible world-shifting information can there be to impart?

The Chiefs just lost a little momentum by virtue of a break - that happens. And it impacted their execution a little bit. I don't believe LAC found any secret sauce in those 20 minutes that they didn't see in the week prior. I don't think they had a perfect plan that they effectuated in the 2nd half that they REFUSED to put in place on the last drive of the 1st, the drive that really had them punching uphill the rest of the game.

First half, second half, whatever - the Chiefs scored 31. And racked up a SHITLOAD of yards. They played very similarly to the Denver game with the only real distinction being that they finished drives in the red zone. But both weeks they moved the ball like an elite unit on balance.

The offense is fine. It's not a death star because we don't have offensive superstars on rookie deals. That's going to keep our ceiling a little lower. But it has good players and unless (until?) Rice becomes a true star in his own right, being a very good offense is probably going to have to be acceptable for us.

Exactly. And in the period in question we've plowed a bunch of capital at rebuilding a defense. Which we've done to the tune of the best defense of the Reid era and almost certainly our best defense this century.

The balancing act has been tilted towards a defense that was really bad and suddenly really old. And now we can (and will) tilt it back towards the offense. Eventually we'll find equilibrium (he says with a team that has a top 5 offense and defense) and everyone can be happy again.

Bitching because an offense punted three times in a game where they had 484 yards and 31 points is ****ing stupid.

Is that direct enough for you? Are you not bitching about a game in which the Chiefs racked up 484 yards, scored 31 points-because they punted three times?

Are you ****ing serious right now?

Is that not EXACTLY what you've said? Where did I make anything up? How is it possible for you to be THIS ****ing full of shit?

So you must be ecstatic about the Chiefs having a top 5 offense and defense, sitting at 6-1 with the 1st seed, and their best ball still ahead of them!

You act like there's some way to guarantee that in October.

I'm not an NFL head coach or anything, but I'm pretty positive you can't do that in October.

No problem. Don't want to talk football with a man this emotional.

I hope if we add another WR you don't cry all day.

This is the issue with the offense right here - and why some of us are having trouble with them passing the eye test.

From memory, we scored a TD on like 75% of RZ drives last year - and I'm betting we're in the 50-55% range this year.
