They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

And while practice definitely helps to refine some of that stuff, I'm sure there are players who just panic and don't show up in actual games (Moore??). And the only way to confidently break that cycle is to give the guy more reps/chances at game speed until it's really conclusive that it's not gonna work.

The struggles that the WRs and Mahomes are having are not mutually exclusive. There is no doubt it is a lot more on the WRs than it is on Mahomes though, but the onus is on both to try and figure it out.
Welp, i think i've been vocally supportive of the, "Let the young guys play all season" approach.

There's only one way to find out what you do or dont have. So, regardless of our assessments, the answer is always, "let them play and hope some guys emerge".

I don't think they'll be adding anyone before the trade deadline. Wouldn't be shocked if they did and certainly wouldnt oppose it. But i think the Chiefs will be content riding this out till the end and then adjusting from there.

Because it wasn't 3rd and goal?

The ball should come out on time to Moore's outside shoulder and he outruns the guy to the sideline and gets a first, breaks the tackle and scores in an ideal situation.

So he trusts him to be physically able to do that but not catch a lasso route and outrun a guy to the sideline?
I thought that was to Rice.

Yeah, I think so too. It's not that I think they wouldn't try to add someone if the price and opportunity are right, but I don't think it's their MO to go out and try to make a splash. And if Moore has been the big underperformer, there must be some hope that replacing him in the slot with Richie James when he's healthy can improve things.

They're rolling the dice. Whether it works or not, who knows. But I can absolutely see the logic in what they've done and what they're doing.

I'm not sure it was 'to' anyone.

But Moore was in the nearest vicinity...

Skyy doesn't break a lot of tackles.

Last season, he only broke two tackles on 22 catches. Or, for those keeping score, about 9% of the time. This season, Skyy has no broken tackles on 11 receptions.

Just for comparison, Toney caught 17 balls and broke 4 tackles in 2022. This season on 17 catches Toney has already broken 4 tackles, or about 24% of the time.

He doesn't have to break a tackle there. Just outrun a guy who's trailing him to the sideline.

Okay.

But 'outrun' isn't really a primary Skyy skillset either.

Another stat we can look at is Passer Rating when Skyy or Toney (or anyone) is targeted.

Skyy's PR is about 51.0

Toney's is about 71.0

Just to give this a little context, Sammy Watkins' PR when he was a Chief was over 100. Even last season, when Sammy was bouncing between GB and BAL and not playing terribly well, his PR was over 90.

Or, how about DRob? The guy everyone loves to hate around here . . . PR while a Chief was over 100.

Now, I'm not saying we should go get DRob/Sammy back, but just illustrating how Pat could have little to no confidence in Skyy, when he can't even perform in the same ballpark as DRob.

Skyy Moore would not be seeing the field on any other NFL team.

If he hits Skyy when he puts his foot in the ground and breaks towards the sideline, I would imagine he gets a first down atleast.
