Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Apparently not, at least not to the Chiefs.

They gave up roughly 1000 draft value points for him.

That's the equivalent to the 16th pick in the draft.

Yeah, no.

If you're going by the draft value chart, you have to adjust future picks by one round per year.

Therefore, it's the equivalent of giving up our 2nd rounder pick this year (560 pts) and what we can conservatively assume could be a 2nd rounder next year (which if we're good enough for Smith to earn that 2nd rounder, we'd be something like picking twentieth, which would be 170 pts when deducted 1 round's worth).

That's 730 points, which would be good enough for the 25th overall pick.

I don't even understand why we assume what the compensation is before the deal is even close to being official. by my count were still off by 8 days.

Who thinks he's a bust? It's the studs that are drafted #1 overall, benched at age 27 and traded at age 28, right in the prime of their careers! We got a guy who's arrow is pointed straight up!

I was figuring a middle of the pack second rounder. Pick 16 in the second is worth 420 points and #34 is worth 560.

That's 980.

Pick 17 is worth 950 and pick 16 is worth 1000.

What part of "confirmed by NFL sources" is so hard for you guys to see?

Or is it just denial?

If you say it about where he was drafted sure. But the fact is that he has a positive td to int ratio, and a positive win loss record. hes not a bust. An underachiever? Absolutely.

YOu would of had a point, if he hadnt gotten better statistically every single year. yes, from year one, all the way until he got a concussion this year, he was getting better. So how do you say his arrow is not at least pointing somewhere up? Its certainly not pointing straight down.

Oh, and how old was rich gannon when he left the chiefs to go on to play in a super bowl with the raiders? ahhh, right. 33

I didn't say anything about it pointing down. I just pointed out he's the #1 overall pick that was benched, and traded.

That's not the description of a guy that has lit/will light the world on fire.
