While I agree with this, theres no way ATL lets him out for less than a one IMO.

Probably semantics more than anything, but it's an argument that I've seen with some regularity over the last couple years and I don't think it's necessarily an accurate way of viewing things.

Moving from an offense that wins WITH Kelce rather than THROUGH Kelce should be (and almost certainly has been) the end goal. Trying to take steps to ensure that we can continue to win THROUGH him was just never feasible.

My thinking is just to allow him to spend more of the season on the sideline so his body, hopefully, isn't as beaten up the post season. Reduce the chance of serious injury or nagging injury that reduces effectiveness.

And very importantly, increase the chance that each spring he decides to come back instead of retiring.

Who will Veach find to replace Jones that is better than Jarrett? Do you not see the upside in Pitts?

HAHAHAHAHA saying MVS has "Value"! He is gone after this year and can easily be replaced.

This trade gets us a better weapon than MVS, a great pairing in Jones and Jarrett for this season and then the ability to recoup the compensation with a tag/trade Jones in teh off season. Plus Veach still has a good starting DT in Jarrett for half the cost of Jones instead of either being forced to spend a high pick on a rookie DT or overpay a lesser DT in free agency.

Yup a real horrible plan...If anything you should be arguing that no way Atlanta takes this deal.

Its NOT MVS...It's his contract. His contract is about the only thing Veach has if he wants to bring in any real impact players before trade deadline.

Yes I know another MVS trade BUT to make this happen Veach has to include MVS's contract to make this work with cap space. If Veach can get it done without MVS's contract that is fine too.

While still good Grady Jarrett is 30 and not at Chris Jones level but still a very good starter in the NFL. He is under contract until 2025 with only hitting the cap for about $16M a year. HE can lineup next to Jones this year and then Veach looks to tag/trade or let Jones walk after this year. Veach would be saving about $16M going with Jarrett over Jones. I agree Pitts is not being used in Atlanta and will get his best shot and becoming elite next to Kelce and then taking over for Kelce in years to come. Reid would love this!

The idea would be to get this trade done, strengthen the O and D for a Super Bowl run THIS YEAR and then a must tag/trade Jones in the offseason to recoup that 1st and 5th we sent for Jarrett and Pitts.
So many things wrong with this.

But you realize tagging CJ was going to be difficult already given his cap hit. But if you then add Jarrett and Pitts and their contracts, it probably makes it damn near impossible absent some other restructurings that put us in a worse spot for future years. And then we’re still going to be in a lot of discomfort trying to trade him when everyone knows we have no intent of actually keeping him at that price point. So we lose even more leverage there. No way we’re getting a 1 for him.

Stop with these fantasty ideas. They’re ridiculous and have no grounding in reality.

Wait till he gets a QB. He's open all the time. Ridder can't make basic NFL throws.

So your plan is to what? Let Jones just walk away because no team will trade for him? OR give him his $32+ million he wants?

I don't like this trade, and the Chiefs still need MVS, all appearances to the contrary.

And unless Jones gets hurt, we really don't need Grady Jarrett.

I'd be down for Pitts for a conditional pick that starts at a 4th. If he performs well (standards TBD), it elevates to a 3rd. If he performs very well (TBD), it can elevate to a 2nd but we get a 4th or 5th back.

Jones will probably not get $30m/year from anybody at this point.

But... he's going to walk. The Chiefs have tried to ink him for a year and it didn't work out. And according to Schefter, we may not have the room for a tag and trade.

If Jones gets double digit sacks and stays healthy, then he will get $30+ mil/yr from someone. There are 31 other teams and several of them love throwing money around. They'll easily do it for a HOF caliber DT that's one of the best pass rushers in the entire league.

I am scared that we will have not played much competition before the trade deadline and we sit tight with Skyy Moore, Justin Watson, and Noah Gray as guys getting fed snaps on a SB contender.

Then lose a few to Buffalo, Miami, and Philadelphia and have no help on the way.

So you're saying the Chiefs WR group needs a shot in the arm?
