A Pre-Season Levelheaded Review Week 1 2024

Everyone needs more training on these new kickoff rules - good lord.

Joshua Williams got lost on that bomb on the first drive

Nic jones looked lost on that bomb TD at the end of the half.

The secondary looked out of it at times - but it's the pre-season

Carson Steele looked like the real deal out there trucking people. Could be the short yardage guy we have been needing - also may just be the #2 behind Pacheco if he can play like that all the time.

Oladokun looked really good. I really feel like he could spell Mahomes well in reserve. Wentz was decent as well behind our backup O-line which looked terrible at times.

No Toney (injured) and no Moore that I could see on the field which should be telling. Especially with Ross, Washington, Powell, Remigio, Cupp, Bailey and Spivey getting catches.

Araiza looked really good on punts.

I'll re-watch tomorrow and see what else I can see.

Oh I almost forgot - that snap over Wentz head that had to be Nourzad? yeesh lets work on that lol

Some interesting things to note is Moore had 14 snaps and Keith Taylor had 36 snaps at CB

I actually thought Driskoll and Niang looked good at the tackle spots in the second quarter.

Godrick looked terrible at LT coming in for Kingsley.

I think Niang has a good chance to be a swing tackle still. And Driskoll too

I did notice there was a lot of botched assignments when Wentz was out there, definitely need to re-watch today.

Remember how bad we looked against the saints last year first game in preseason. Doesn’t concern me. But there is room for improvement in areas

It was the 7th rd rookie Hanson had that bad snap to Wentz.

Also I think Williams will be a decent but not great corner. We will see a worse corner group obviously without Sneed. However Watson and Joseph did not play.

Run defense was really good. It’s gonna be hard to run on us

Also we know Andy shows nothing this time of year. I think we’re gonna see heavy 12 personnel like 2022 with Kelce, Wiley, Gray and Smith all projected to make the roster

Niang completely whiffed leaving untouched rusher to QB. At some point, you have to move on from a mistake.

With the speed we have in Hollywood/Worthy, and Rice running more vertical routes, I'd be a little surprised if we don't run a little less 12/13P this season and a little more 11.

It'll be interesting to see what Andy does.

So after re-watching the first half of the game here are some additional thoughts

The kickoff by Jax after their first TD a Jax player clearly took a couple steps and then reset himself before the ball was caught. This wasn't called but a holding by the Chiefs was.

Godrick was getting absolutely manhandled and just looked overall lost on the following drive.

just watching the bomb on Williams in the first Q ...it looked terrible IDK how he go so out of position but his attempt to make a play looked desperate.

Hicks is really good at open field tackling

Nic Jones looked great on coverage on the pass into the EZ. Didn't get his head around but stuck like glue on the WR and it looked like the pass hit him on the back of the shoulder.

It was Mike Caliendo on that bad snap to Wentz -- eek

Hardman taking all the PR/KR is telling as well.

Oladokun is a good QB. He has really come a long way and I love his mobility. Wentz is safe but Oladokun is going to be really good. I'd love to see him in s Eries with the #1s just to see what he can really do.

That Steele run was just if he runs like that all the time he is going to be dangerous for us this year.

Driskell looked way better at LT than Godrick

Andy shows nothing in preseason and it's all about the auditioning for the guys at the bottom fighting for roster spots.

We will be fine if we can avoid more injuries.

Wentz looks good in camp with a yellow jersey on. His problem is after all the injuries he locks up under real pressure that can hurt him. He will be the backup no matter how well Oladoken does.

I think it's past time to rip off the Toney and Moore band aid.
