Today's music is mostly GARBAGE

Last night the Grammy Awards were on. I stopped watching award shows about 30 years ago for a variety of reason.

I saw some headlines this morning about the winners.

The Song of the Year is Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us"

This song is a piece of shit and how this garbage would be considered Song of the Year tells me that the music industry is another woke crap infested dump.

It is just another industry in decline.

What a joke.....

I think casting something off just because its popular is sort of lazy as well...but yea that is basically a completely different argument then how you started the thread.

Good music is good music I feel like people lose the plot when they try to make silly factors like how popular it is carry a lot of weight.

I'd like to flip that in its head, though.

I don't think popular music is necessarily crap. But the stuff that IS popular is popular because it's crap.

Let's face it. We live in a lowest common denominator society. Consume, consume, consume. It makes sense to mass produce schlock.

Bingo. For example, country and pop are two sides of the same low-IQ coin. Trash gobbled up by the masses.

Perhaps people are just tired as **** about their lives and want something mindless to bop around to instead of having to actually pay attention

Dream Theater's time changes in the middle of songs (some songs have up to 5 separate time changes and that is nuts) are ridiculous and, IMO, Mike Portnoy is the best drummer in the world. That said, I don't want to listen to super technical music all the time.

Low IQ music is the background soundtrack for a massive amount of people. For some that is Billie Eilish and for others that is Morgan Wallen.

My suggestion for those hating on modern music is two fold.

(1) Jump on a music streaming service and queue up whatever you like to listen to.

I don't disagree with any of that, this is all subjective.

I listen to a lot of "low IQ" music. I love sludge, stoner, and doom music. Droning pedal tones, pentatonic riffs, the whole 9 yards.

The difference is they're playing through tube amps with analog effects for the most part. It's barely "produced" let alone polished.

Low IQ can be good. It doesn't have to be assembly line AI-generated junk.

While I am glad we all settled on the fact that everyone gets to enjoy the music they want have we figured out why I caught a stray in this thread for using a phrase twice in 2 years?

Low-IQ

High-IQ (12 ****ing time changes, in the most random places, in this song)

Neither is going to teach you to code on your way to Home Depot.

I became a wedding dj about 6 years ago and ever since then I've taken the mindset of "if the music moves you in some way then who am i to judge that." Some low iq songs just kill on the dance floor. Whether or not its just to dance or admire for the complexity people love different things.

Except for the chicken dance. **** anyone who likes that.
