New Pixel 7a came out yesterday. It's got a lot of what the flagship has in a more friendly buying price. I think it's like $499 maybe?
I'm a Google guy and have always preferred Android even though I'm currently using an Iphone for the first time in my life. If they could ever figure out the shitty texting and media sharing between the two OS systems I'd be a happy camper and right back over to the Pixels. Never was a fan of Samsung phones myself. |

If you're used to a standard profile phone, I wouldn't recommend a folding phone of any kind. When closed, they're noticeably narrower than a "regular" smart phone and it makes everyday tasks like texting more difficult. More often than not, fold users end up having to unfold their phone for everything and it loses its convenience factor. If you really want a bigger screen, get a tablet.
As for what type of phone you SHOULD get, if you're set on Android/Google, as Blake said, Google released a couple of phones yesterday, one of which is the very affordable Pixel 7a. Samsung does make a great phone as well but you probably already know that after using the S21. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend anything other than those two. There are other phone manufacturers for sure but Samsung and Google are much better at support the OS long term, especially when it comes to security patching and the like. |

It amazes me how these things always seem to fail right around payoff time... but im sure that's just coincidence. |

Hell, just the other day we sprang a leak in our hot tub, 4 days after the warranty expired. Things aren't built to last anymore. We're a consumer-driven society and the only way to sustain is to buy more stuff more often. |

Depending on your carrier, they'll likely give you a considerable trade-in value for your existing S21. You could probably get a S23 for practically nothing. Check your carrier. I'd also recommend the Pixel 7A if you're happy with Android. The S23 is a better phone overall, but it's like double the price of the 7A, and the extra features might not be worth it to somebody who only uses their phone for simple stuff.

I traded my S9 in because my mother was having problems with her OnePlus 5T and AT&T was offering $800 trade in for the S9 in any condition and it was like 3 generations old. She got a new S22 Ultra or some shit for $400 and I took her 5T and put a new battery in it. Works fine. |

Now that i think about it, i kept my note 5 for long past the payoff date until the battery crapped out. They don't build these things to last. |

I got a new work phone when the google pixel 7pro came out. Its a pretty nice phone. I had been issued Samsung before which I liked but this seems much better. The old was a 21 Ultra I think.
My own cell phone is a Samsung S20 + an ok phone with no issues and 3 generations old and going fine. I had to replace the glass camera lens cover that my pocket flipper knife broke out. I just bought a repair kit on Amazon and was fine. My retirement comes late this fall so I will probably replace my personal Samsung with a Pixel then. |

My Fold2 was beat to shit and Verizon gave me 800 for it so I got an S23+. It's an amazing phone, great battery life...but it's just a phone. I miss my Fold every day, and the moment my current phone is out of the 2 year "free contract period" I am 100% going back to the Folds.
