*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

I wish I could've just been an invisible spectator at some of the first few practices (all of them, really) with Mahomes; just to see and hear Coaches and players react to what they were seeing. particularly since they've been witnessing Alex for years prior.

must have been like the cavemen reacted when they made fire for the first time.

To see the quarterbacks side-by-side was jarring for the objective observer and, I assume, physically debilitating for Pace, the man who did the picking (and not picking) in 2017. Mahomes is so much better at reading defenses and taking them apart than Trubisky is. He’s far more accurate with his passes. His footwork is better. His arm is better. He’s more elusive. He probably sings in the shower better.

Have we talked about how far we think the Chiefs go in 17 if they had been ballsy enough to switch to Mahomes after the Denver game?

I’m confident they at least beat the Titans.

I believe Patrick would find a way to win that game. In fairness to Alex, he played lights out in the first half. It’s similar to Warren Moon in the Oilers chokejob against Buffalo. I’ll give him credit for building the lead that caused the choke.

The 19-yard pass to Tyreek Hill on the first drive gives Patrick Mahomes these stats this season on 3rd or 4th and 18 or more: 9-of-10 for 220 yards, 5 first downs, 4 TDs and on interceptions. Amazing

So they did a breakdown of that 3rd-and-18 on an NFL Rewind show today and its nuts how that came together.

Mahomes had a 3-step drop. He slings that bitch at 2.9 seconds from the snap before Tyreek had even started to hit the brakes. The corner was bailing so hard that there was a huge void, as he feared the Cheetah speed so much. They made that play with 3rd-and-5 fundamentals—except it was 18 yards.

And that is why this team is incredibly dangerous moving forward. There’s no defense for that.

The 2007 Mizzou football team was hilarious in that they seemed just as likely to pick up a 3rd and 20 as they were 3rd and 4. It just didn't matter - they had so many downfield concepts put together anyway that either they executed and converted or they didn't and failed; nothing the defense seemed to do mattered.

This offense feels like that when it's in sync. On 2nd and 8 I really don't care if they drop back because even if they get sacked and it's 3rd and 16, well they have damn near as many ideas for dealing with that as they do 3rd and 4.

Either they'll execute and convert or they won't. The defense is just kinda along for the ride.

The simplicity of that play, and the results, were incredible.

All 3 receivers literally just ran to the first down marker and turned around.

Talent, baby.

And if I had to guess, they could convert those routes vertical if they saw press coverage without help over top. Although idk of many teams that would do that, at least across the board.
