Andrew Luck Retires

Filed to ESPN: Andrew Luck has informed the Colts he is retiring from the NFL, per source. There will be a press conference Sunday to make it official, but Luck is mentally worn down, and now checking out.

They get what they deserve.
Chad Kelly will be the backup. They only need someone until his suspension is over.

I was told qbs don't take enough hits for early retirement. They may not take as many hits as a running back. But these kind of blind side hits hurt worse and have to mess you up mentally.

Okay, so now that all the angst over luck's retirement has been aired (most, anyway, I hope), I realized the other day that Mahomes won't have that foil or arch-nemesis, in his career now that Luck is gone.

I mean, Brady is gone in the next 2 to 3 years probably, Rivers also in two years max. After that, what QB/team in the AFC can be the guy that pushes Mahomes the way Luck and the Colts might have for the next 6-8 years?

Watson and Mayfield are his natural rivals, even before Luck's retirement.

Possibly. Watson I have my doubts about, not about his ability, but more about the offense he's in; it just doesn't seem best suited to his strengths. Or maybe it has more to do with the play-calling, but the Texans seem like they're struggling even when they're winning.

Mayfield might end up being Mahomes' arch-rival, which I think could turn out great for the league in terms of dramatic playoff match-ups, but I was really thinking about QBs/teams with a bit more experience, kind of a goalpost for Mahomes to reach for in the early part of his career. Kind of like how Jordan had Isaiah Thomas and the Pistons to overcome before becoming the GOAT.

Mahomes is the goalpost already.
