What's your longest road trip?

How long was it, where did you start and end, and what did you do on the journey? Were you working on a deadline to reach your destination, or was this merely a journey? Was there a purpose behind it (e.g., moving) or was it purely a pleasure trip?

You may offer different answers for different conveyances. Car, bike, motorcycle, bus, train, freighter, plane, and so on.

As a driver, the longest I've ever driven was 5-ish hours from Las Vegas to San Diego.

As a passenger, probably somewhere in the 10-12 hour range (Ohio to Virginia) with my dad.

I've also done a few 24-hour Greyhound trips from Ohio to Florida. Doesn't really count since you stop at every major city and have the opportunity to stretch your legs and what not.. but that is a bunch of bullshit. Never again.

I've driven from Olathe to San Diego multiple times.

It's just shy of 3,200 miles (48 hours of driving) round trip.

When I was two years old, my parents took me on a road trip from southern Missouri to California and back, which looks like about 3,300 miles. That appears to be my record in a car, though I don't remember it at all.

Next month we'll do a 2,300 mile road trip through South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming, which will be a new adult record for me.

I have a vague memory of doing a family trip from Austin to northern Kentucky on a family trip once, which is 1,900 miles. That was pretty much a drive more than a road trip, though. Going to visit some family members for Christmas, so we just had to get there.

As an adult, I think my biggest pleasure trip has been a trip from Denver to the Grand Canyon, passing through Utah on the way out and New Mexico on the way back. That's about 1,500 miles, and we made lots of fun stops, so it counts as a true road trip.

We also drove from Austin to Albuquerque a couple of times for family visits, which is a round trip of 1,400 miles. Those were more drives than road trips, but it was pretty cool to drive through west Texas, so they were fun.

Longest trip was Wichita to Portland, Maine.

Longest one day drive was Jackson Hole, Wyoming to Wichita. Eighteen hours of driving while only stopping to piss and buy gas.

When ma and I moved to Great Falls, MT

We took the long route visiting friends and relatives along the way in Colorado and Wyoming, with a stop at the Custer battlefield that was quite out of the way as I recall

Ma took me along for an adventure, living in Montana was incredible

Longest I have done alone is from Kansas City to Los Angeles, One-Way. That was back in 1997 when I moved to Southern California....

I have done the round trip from KC to LA (and back to KC) prior to that, but I was only a part-time driver.

Otherwise, I have been "in a car" for trips from KC to the East Coast (NY) and Florida several times when I was a kid.

Not sure how one does a road trip on a freighter, but I'll play. Family trip - KC to Salt Lake City for a couple of days, to Jackson Hole for three days, to Yellowstone Park, to Seattle for the World's Fair in '62 for a week. Then up to Vancouver, BC., then down to San Francisco for a couple of days, then on to Anaheim and Disneyland for a couple of days, then on to Las Vegas so the old man can win money to pay for the trip (yes, he did win enough), then back to KC.

On my own - Long Beach CA to Mayport FL, via KC.

I traveled the world from 1980-1985. No other purpose than I could. Wanted to see the world outside of Missouri. I risked my life because I didn't care if I had a future. Only partying and getting laid. I saw every part of the globe expect for Russia and China. I was denied entrance to those countries for cause.

My favorite long trip was leaf peeping in early October. Flew into Albany, rented a car and drove all over the NE up into Maine where we spent our 30th anniversary. Took a different route back. No idea how far we went in the 6 days.
