Heath Ledger played the Joker so incredibly well that all others look like scrubs compared to him.

Then what gives you the authority to judge when you haven't considered the entire field?

How can they take this any further unless they bring in a superhero to counter him?

Batman, perhaps. And there are lots to choose from. The Joker in Gotham was well done and he didn't really have a nemesis other than other criminals. Granted, I didn't make it through most of the series before boring out.

There's a whole lot to explore there, IMO.

Just do a Fight Club but the alter ego wins.

*sigh* Great movie that doesn't need or call for a sequel. Why can't Hollywood just paint a picture and drop the brush, FFS?

When is Saving Private Ryan II coming out? Schindler's Other List? How about Ei8ht-- the sequel to Se7en?

You kinda proved that they actually do just paint a picture and drop the brush sometimes. It's unrealistic to expect that all the time, especially dealing with a character who has as much source material as the Joker.

Yeah... but the joker has source material for days and I’m curious how this joker would react and be in a world with Batman.

I'm with you. One of the more overrated movies I've ever seen.
