Steve Smith Sr. Breakdown of Drops vs Lions

Summary:

1. Skyy Moore drop at the 10 yard line - Skyy sped the route up too much - needed to chop the steps off the line to buy time for the RPO. Patrick put the ball in the correct spot, Skyy was just a step or two too fast.

2. Skyy Moore drop at the 45 yard line - great play by the DB playing the ball not the play.

3. Kadarius pick 6 - Lack of concentration a little bit of "I got this" and "oops"

4. Kadarius/James Mesh - James ran the route too deep - tried to correct the route and messed up the play blocking KT's view - James lacks field awareness at times - not KT fault.

5. Kadarius drop at the 40 - KT didn't sit down on the route and floated into the defender - defender made the play. The body language on this catch showed that KT was just trying to get thru the game - instead of attacking the ball with hands waiting the ball into the body.

6. Kadarius drop on last drive - Takes eye off the QB to look at what he was feeling (being wide open). "The toughest catch in the NFL is the one where you are wide open."

Nothing was working that night - really just a summation of the way things were going through the night.

When Steve Smith Sr. first started doing analysis in like 2018 or whenever, I didn't care for him. As it turned out he just needed some time to figure out how to look and sound good on TV/Camera. To his credit he's done very well and fairly fast.

Thanks for sharing this one, Denver. It's a nice little mid-week appetizer.

He's a little rough around the edges, but I was engaged the whole video.

Thought he did well.

I wasn't a fan of Steve Smith as a player, but I really like him as a talking head. He knows his stuff and he's not afraid to say it.

That was very informative. Love Steve Smith. Thanks for posting.

I guess this shouldn't be surprising considering the lack of experience in this offense and/or the new roles. Pretty much all of our WRs are either new this year (Rice/Ross/James), were here for only half of last year (Toney), or have only been here just one season (Watson/Moore/MVS).

Um, that and he knew he was crossing in front of Brian Branch. Go look at his college tape and see how well that works out when he's got a free shot at you.

Doesn't mean Toney isn't tough enough. Just means having a DB like Branch (and CJGJ) lurking back there makes WRs nervous.
