New build house, with it, came a 1986 manufactured furnace.

We recently bought a new build home in CA and we had a home inspection completed and were advised our furnace while “new” was manufactured in 1986…… should I be concerned? Why would they not use a furnace from the 21st century at the very least? Is there a law in CA that prevents new build homes from using such outdated equipment?

Maybe a loophole for CA to get around using some bullshit CA law about using a mans furnace?

You should be able to find the serial number and then you can Google how to read that manufacturers serial number and find out.

If it was 1986, I would be calling the builder and installer today. To me, it is like putting a new tire manufactured in 1986, on a car. Wouldnt do that either.

If you can’t see the date on the sticker….you should be able to tell by looking at it.

If it is, I’d not want it due to efficiency reasons….it will last 15 years longer than a new one but your heat bill will be higher.

I’ll wager it’s got a patent. Date or something that’s 86.
