Is it too early to start talking about the 2023 draft?

I’m going to start digging into WR and EDGE, because I think there’s a really good possibility that we’ll be looking at those positions early again next year.

WR:

Jaxon Smith-Njiba, WR, Ohio St. - this guy looks like Metchie 2.0. He’s even better though.

Kayshon Boutte, WR, LSU - for what feels like the first time in a while, LSU didn’t have a stud WR. This guy looks like a top 20 pick next year though.

Jordan Addison, WR, USC - recently transferred from Pitt to USC. He’s probably my favorite prospect going into the season. Absolute stud.

Josh Downs, WR, UNC - Sam Howell’s#1 WR looks like a better version of Dyami Brown.

Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU - this dude is ****ing huge, and moves very well for his size (6’4” 215lbs).

Dontay Demus, WR, Maryland - yet another big WR. This class looks like it will be full of them. Demus tore his ACL last year, so he may be the perfect late 1st round pick at WR, because I think he’d be rated much higher going into the season without the injury.

EDGE:

Will Anderson, EDGE, Alabama - yea we won’t even have a shot at this guy. Future top 5 pick, and an absolute stud.

Myles Murphy, EDGE, Clemson - probably won’t have a shot at him either, but he needs to make a big jump to justify his current ranking for most people. He likely will though.

BJ Ojulari, EDGE, LSU - another guy that is more of a projection, like Murphy. Azeez’s brother. Much different build though with his length.

Nolan Smith, EDGE, Georgia - probably too small for us, but maybe he bulks up a little this offseason.

Derick Hall, EDGE, Auburn - this guy easily passes the eye test. He just looks like a ****ing beast. Should be a borderline 1st rounder. A little stiff, but he’s the type of player that Spags loves.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba is probably a top 10 pick and the #1 WR off the board. Not going to even waste my time hoping for him.

Jordan Addison will be right up there too. Stud with speed in a Jameson Williams' mold. Not a chance at him.

Kayshon Boutte might be a guy to talk about. He'd maybe be in striking distance.

Rakim Jarrett from Maryland is a guy to keep an eye on in their stacked room. He might be the better player over Demus. Jacob Copeland transferred there from Florida too but not too high on that kid.

DE, keep an eye for Hab Baldonado out of Pittsburgh. 9 sacks last year. Productive. 6'5" 260 guy.

Isaiah Foskey from Notre Dame is a for sure name to watch. 10 sacks last year.

Will McDonald from Iowa State could go really high with 11.5 and 10.5 sacks the past 2 seasons. Surprised he went back to school to be honest.

If Zach Harrison can finally stay healthy and put it all together, he'd be a guy.

Curious how Zion Tupuola-Fetui from Washington looks coming back from that Achilles. Played late last year so this will be the test. Was great the year before.

Tackle might be a spot to watch too, depending on what happens with OBJ. Jaxson Kirkland from Washington, Paris Johnson Jr from Ohio State, Peter Skoronski from Northwestern, and Carter Warren from Pittsburgh probably slot in behind Zion Nelson from Miami.

I've been saying next year is the year to take a big swing at WR. OL and DE would be nice. I wonder if Veach might get some draft capital involved in a trade this season. The WRs and RBs could underwhelm this season

Zach Harrison and Zion Tupuola-Fetui are very intriguing as well. Probably more round 2 guys at this point, but they could work their way into round 1 with big seasons.

All in all, I feel very good about those positions just looking at the landscape for next years class. It’s early, but we should be able to address our two biggest long term needs.

If quite a few picks from this year hit I could see next year having fewer needs, would be more qualitative than quantitative. Might be a good year to package some picks and move up for an elite WR or DE.

Agreed. And they still have an extra 3rd and 4th next year for ammo.

Also, OT could be another premium need depending on what happens with Brown.

I think an extension is inevitable after listening to Veach’s PC before the draft.

Well have new needs pop up next year so it’s hard to project out yet.

But I’d like to be able to take a shot at a big time De prospect next year

Sure, but it’s just hard to imagine anything trumping DE and WR after not doubling down at either position this year.

It's never too early. On Jaxon Smith-Njiba, unless they use him more out of the slot, as awesome as he is, I think he'll go later than top 10. That said the WR market is nuts. I think KC's approach for the forseeable future is playing the numbers game at WR and seeing what works out.

We're probably going to have a need at DT as well and possibly, less so, TE.

Not going to matter IMO. He didn't play exclusively in the slot either. He's a prototype Z move receiver regardless. Not much difference between the Z and slot.

He smoked that CB from Utah last year in the Rose Bowl operating as an X.

No doubt, with Wilson and Olave gone now, that they move him around even more.

Yeah makes sense. I dunno, could be right, plus there will be another WR run no doubt.
