Filed to ESPN: Andrew Luck has informed the Colts he is retiring from the NFL, per source. There will be a press conference Sunday to make it official, but Luck is mentally worn down, and now checking out.

There was a study done a number of years ago in one of the major medical journals regarding this. Getting continuously destroyed and tackled and sustaining REAL physical injuries over the course of several years would certainly have an effect on a person. So, while his physical injuries may have healed, he could still be ****ed up psychologically.

That said, he deserves better than being booed by your fanbase.

He deserves to get booed for retiring two-weeks before the start of the season. I dont understand why this is so hard to understand? You want to retire fine... Do it in the offseason before teams sign FAs and fans buy season tickets using their hard earned money... It is called empathy clearly Luck lacks that... Not saying this makes Luck an asshole in life but this was def a dick move.

Doesnt surprise me the QB lovers on here will defend anything a superstar QB does.

Most positions that are executive level and/or essential to the function/operation of a business have a required minimum lead time to provide notice of voluntary departure/separation to minimize disruption.

Andrew Luck as a franchise QB would certainly qualify as a position essential to the function/operation of the Colts franchise.

You can blame the Colts for not properly protecting Luck, etc., but that doesn't excuse Luck for making this decision two weeks before the regular season.

Unless there was a sudden new development with his injury, there is no excuse for the timing of his decision.

Well bully for Luck, he owes the Colts nothing else. Colts maybe shoulda tried to protect him a little better.
And if it's wrong to chuckle inside to myself about the timing of it all, then I don't want to be right.

I'm sure a lot of his teammates do not like or respect his decision they are just not being public about it. As far as who gives a shit about the fans to me that is a ridiculous statement considering without fans there is no NFL and there is no multimillion dollar contract for these guys. Fans deserve to get some respect from these players and be taken into account when a player makes his decision. Retiring two-weeks before start of the season is a slap in the face to Colt fans who bought season tickets for this season.

Timing wasn’t great, but the Colts were prepared. They got Brissett, who is actually a decent QB. And it’s been reported that Luck told them about his thoughts in March.

I think he really wanted to play, but something happened with his leg and he was going to have to rehab again, which was the final straw.

He was going to miss games this year. It strangely reminds me exactly of Eric Berry last season.

Fans can bitch. I get that. But Luck’s body is deteriorating. He wasn’t going to play 16 games and the games he would play likely wouldn’t have been like before.

Not sure how serious you are, but Luck's timing has really screwed the Colts. You'd have to be an idiot to think otherwise. We don't know exactly what happened but it is very shocking for a top franchise QB to just quit apparently unexpectedly a couple weeks before the start of a season.

The guy must have no respect for the colts management or team which deserves the boos he got walking off the field. The Colts made a huge monetary investment in Luck even letting the Colt legend Peyton Manning go. Now they are left without the guy they went all in on and not much else. You'd be pissed if you were a Colts fan and you know it.

I got nothing more to say on the subject. Luck made his decision. It is what it is. I don't respect him as a leader and I think most Colts fans would agree with me.

One of the first things Ballard said at his introductory press conference was that it’s about more than one player. It’s about building a great all around team. And he’s done one hell of a job so far.

We’ll see if he can pull it off.

I think this is a lost season, but it all depends on how good Brissett is. I think 8-8 isn’t unreasonable if Brissett can be at least average. I also think that’s about the ceiling.
