2K returns to making NFL video games, but not a Madden competitor

Sucks that it won't immediately compete with Madden, but it sounds like 2022 could be an opportunity.

I searched but didn't see anything. Delete if Q.

Just quoting the start of the article.

Quote:
2K is getting back into the officially licensed football video game business, having struck a “multi-year partnership” with the NFL that covers “multiple future video games,” the parties announced Tuesday.

But don’t call it a comeback: The deal is for “non-simulation football game experiences,” according to a news release from 2K, so it doesn’t give the publisher the ability to revive its dearly departed NFL 2K franchise. Electronic Arts’ Madden NFL series will remain the only simulation football game in town — for now, at least.

The agreement between 2K and the NFL — for which the parties did not disclose financial terms — will produce “multiple video games centered on fun, approachable and social experiences,” said 2K president David Ismailer in a statement. That suggests that the publisher will focus on making games such as arcade-style sports titles in the vein of Saber Interactive’s NBA 2K Playgrounds 2.

They should make a game title centered around the peripheral NFL jobs. I'm thinking something like, NFL: BRAND MANAGER. Can you retain all your Superstar's endorsements? The all-pro version of the game would be called, "Mr. Big Chest" Mode.

Or maybe, NFL: Accounts and Billing. You're responsible for managing the basic finances for Season Tickets and negotiating vendor contracts. The all-pro version of the game would be called, " '77 Bucs" Mode.

Those are my two ideas for an NFL non-simulation game that allows for the use of trademarked team names and logos.

I think EA has tried something like that already with Madden NFL Coach.

Please be like NFL Blitz, or even a 7 on 7 mode would be awesome.

2k/Visual Concepts attemtped a very ambitious First Person Football mode in NFL2K4/2k5 but it was severely limited on the Xbox. I wouldnt be shocked if, with this new NFL partnership, they revisited FPF with all the new VR tech available. The language in the press release certainly suggests it's a possibility.

I think the Sim is going to happen. EA still has the deal until 2021. Then what thens over, you will hear about a 2K making a sim game. Take Two has big time funds right now due to GTA5/RDR2/Borderlands and NBA2K. This should be interesting once again.

and ****ING FINALLY!

2K is not the same company that made great games back around 2005. If they end up doing something to compete with Madden, it will be a cash grab just like Madden is with the main focus being how to sell as many packs as possible in the ultimate team mode.

Visual Concepts, the studio responsible for the NFL2K games is still there, The President and founders are still there. Alot of the original NFL2K dev's are still there. So, i would expect a good game if they are allowed to ever make a sim game.

If it's a non-simulation style game that tempers my excitement. It would be nice to have two companies trying to push each other to create the best product. Madden has stagnated in my opinion on game mechanics due to the fact that they have no competition and a monopoly on the football gaming market. The Madden team's primary focus is on how to build their E-sports brand through MUT which is reasonable, but there should still be some responsibility to improve the gameplay.

As an example the o-line blocking in Madden has been pure dogshit forever. Needs an overhaul.
