Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

If Pat can keep his completion percentage high throwing that type of route, well, were gonna be tough to stop.

I'm definitely enjoy the Athletic - great content. This is probably my favorite play from that article:

His progression through the reads is so quick - it's amazing.

I saw some reeruned ESPN show on youtube...a guy named Stephen A. (I dont watch sport talk shows)..and he says he needs to see more. Then he goes on to mention the Jacksonville game to illustrate his point.

Mahomes is so good that, after only two games into his first season, this pundit needed to use the #1 defense as a bullet point to prove Mahomes isn't really good....like Brady and Rodgers face the #1 defense every week of the year. (BTW Jacksonville just schooled Brady...FWIW)

In 8 days into his first season...PM has reset the bar for expectations.

He has Bears fans pissed about the Tribisky selection..and ushered in a Steelers implosion.

Just bad ass all around...
This is a really good point.

I've been thinking about this issue. If you're a DC, how do you scheme to stop this offense?

I only see two ways, you rush 3 or 4 and drop everybody else in some kind of mutated man/zone concept. Wally has been designing plays to beat those in his sleep for years.

Alternatively, you can blitz from everywhere. Steelers tried some of that with poor results since Mahomes made the read and got the ball out too fast for the rush to have effect.

I'm not sure how you scheme against these guys, to be honest.

The scariest part is that 3 of those incompletions were touchdowns that he missed by about an electron or two.

He simply misjudged the receiver's speed a bit. That will tighten up with more time on the field with his guys.

Mahomes has more AFC offensive player week awards (2) than Carr has passing TDs this season (1).

Let that sink in.

I think you need a phenomenal pass rush. If Mahomes has decent time to throw, he will find someone open. You can’t cover all the talented receivers in this offense. So basically you need Khalil Mack, Vonn Miller, or Myles Garrett blowing up the offensive line.

Fair enough ... can't dispute that and wouldn't want to try.

So let's think about how you beat the blitz ...

A good rush game would do it. Getting the ball out fast to outlet or intermediate receivers (West Coast O Style). Using the QB's mobility to escape the pocket, extend the play and find a guy who's making himself available on the scramble. (An element of Mahomes' game we haven't seen much of yet.)

We have all that, do we not?
