We're in that funny stage where the best use of an elite OT is to protect an elite QB, but in order to pay an elite qb it may be unaffordable. Unlike WRs who can elevate average qbs, you have OTs protecting QBs who can't do anything even with extra protection.

This is basically a commitment to trying to win with a running game and boy am I glad the chiefs are out of that game.

Extend elite players. Worry about the rest later.

More money is never a bad thing. He can give more help to more people after securing a $10m/year raise from 2025-2029.

Or he can just buy a yacht. That’s pretty ****ing awesome too.

We get too worked up about "positional value" at times, myself included.

But when you have an elite, top of his position player, you pay him.

No but baker getting $30m a year is a huge discount versus what elite qbs are making.

I dont blame them but it does feel a little Alex smithy where you're settling for 9-7 which plays you out of draft position for the elite qb you really want. And maybe that makes sense since they play in such a lousy division. But I get it. The comment was less about Tampa and more about the state of how hard it could become for elite qbs to get paired with elite LTs that most of them need. I've always found it interesting how many elite WRs play for dogshit qbs, but I think OTs can easily have HOF careers with awful qbs... See Joe Thomas
