Spoilers.
It was decent for being free.

Jake does a good job. Good realistic fights scenes. Doesn't hold back on killing.

They didn't really flesh out characters.

Definitely better than the other roadhouse remake.
He is not the old Dalton.

Alright, ya mother****ers. I watched it this morning (It was 2 ****ing hours!). It was every bit as bad as what I just watched last night, save Sam Elliot. We always need more Sam Elliot.

I think the crux of the issue is that the original was set in KC. That hits the nostalgia bone harder for you guys.

Spoiler!

Again, I will state I think the scene where the bad dude is shot by everyone and no one knows about it, is a nod to Stanberry, Mo.

Ken Rex McElroy.

Meh. He was trying to act unhinged. It worked. And he was there to fight, and the fighting was good.

Worked for me.

I'm sure that at least inspired it.

One of my friends was a deputy sheriff in Nodaway County about 30 years ago. He said Skidmore was a creepy place and he didn't like to go there. The locals really kept to themselves and massively distrusted outsiders. As far as I know to this day nobody was ever charged. Which is good, because that ****er definitely needed killin'.

The first movie is a classic because it took a ridiculous premise on with absolute sincerity. The situation was idiotic, but it was made with skill and care. It's okay to try.

This version was far, far too self aware, and it hamstrung the movie. The CGI and dubbing of the voices took me completely out of the viewing experience. If you go back and watch the first scene with the bookshop girl, almost all of her lines were dubbed. Most of McGregor too.

Combine that with the CGI editing of all the punches, which might be the worst 'development' to hit filmmaking since CGI blood replaced squibs, and it looked like something you'd get from a first-year film student trying to ape Michael Bay.

The first movie has a tight script with little wasted action. What is the point of the female love interest? How did her accent make any sense? How does Gyllenhaal become a munitions expert? Who was Joe Burrow's dad? Why was Bucho in this at all? What was the point of the post-credits scene except to fulfill the Leprechaun's ego?

What an awful mess that was. I can't believe that's the best editing they could do. How did Doug Liman go from making The Bourne Identity to that?

If Amazon renamed it Glass Key it would still be hog shit, but 1000 times less offensive.
