*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Clinging to false narratives

He’s completed over 70% of his passes the last 3 games

When does Mahomes ever complete a pass where the nearest defender is within 10 yards of the receiver? 2, maybe 3 times per game?

Football is an absolute joke now, and Andy Reid and the Chiefs' weapons are underscoring just how laughable it is.

When you watch Mahomes rather than actually watching box scores, you can see how objectively not impressive he is. He's Jeff Garcia with a stronger arm. Lousy mechanics, not very accurate, a bunch of jump passes to wide open guys...but that's all he has to do to put up huge numbers now.”

Those same Bears fans will lose their minds when Trubisky even completes one pass beyond 30 yards. And then act like it never happens for Mahomes.

Denial. It’s all denial.

And I’m sorry—but people need to understand that although the receivers and coaching helps a ton, not many QBs, if any, could produce like Mahomes currently is. He’s the perfect QB to play with that speed.

Trubisky would not have our offense even close to the level it is currently at. Not even in the ball park. It’d be worse than what Smith did last year I believe.

Ive seen them on Twitter. Delusional. Mitch is turning into a solid qb. Totally different qb than mahomes. Uses his legs a lot more to run for yards. But no way in hell anyone can say they pass the same eye test. Funny that he bags on mahomes for "simple" passes but doesn't talk about how a ton of yards come from simple outside passes. To his credit... Very quick release, making a lot of plus throws. But for an offense that's pretty simple to execute, his completion % the last few games is anything but impressive. Meanwhile mahomes in most games we've played has carried a bad defense by being consistently on point, and making a shitload of "plus" throws.

By the way, this wasn't mahomes' biggest win. I thought it was arguably his best. Pitt is a close second. But that D look flat out lost. Just like cincy. Against Cleveland, he was surgical against a defense that did their job (outside of being awful in the screen game). He used the pocket better than any game. Made some big league challenging throws. And his red zone throws to kelce were elite.

Trubisky is totally propped up by Nagy’s system.

Dude is a real solid coach. He’s done a great job with a really underwhelming QB.

I wouldn't call him underwhelming. I wouldn't mind having Trubisky if the Chiefs had no shot at mahomes. Very athletic runner. Good arm. Has a few throws where he throws in a really tight window. Bears should be happy about what they have. But only the most delusional person looks at these two qbs and thinks Trubisky is better... Or even close to being as good as mahomes has been.

Put Trubisky on this team and we're a .500 team.

^ It's not delusional or idiotic or false narratives (well, it IS, but...) - it's JEALOUSLY. Nothing more, nothing less from those fans. They know he's ****ing great, but it kills them to their very soul that they passed on him for one of the worst QBs in the league who can barely complete a pass.

His ceiling is a slightly more aggressive Alex Smith.

Nagy's done a great job in the near term of dealing with Trubisky's weaknesses and playing to his strengths. The problem is that there's a shelf life for what he's doing. At some point he can't just keep playing the slice here - he has to make Trubisky's scattershot accuracy and questionable decision-making BETTER. He can't just keep playing around it.

I agree that Nagy's done a nice job of winning some ballgames where a more headstrong offensive guy could be at 2 wins and in the process of truly wrecking Trubisky by just forcing that square peg into a round hole. But at some point he needs to round the corners off the peg here. I don't fault him for not doing it yet, but the clock is ticking on Mitch. There needs to be a lot of development over the coming years there.
