Chiefs Alternate History Madden Franchise: Can Joe Montana take KC back to the SB?

Return of Mals: Joe Montana Edition

Downloaded a 1993 NFL Roster updated for Madden 17 last night.

All teams and players are edited to reflect their 1993 counterparts. Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Warren Moon and JOE MONTANA are all on this roster along with every other starter AND backup from 1993. This roster is so accurate it has Andre Ware on the Lions. Titans serve as the Oilers, Texans and Jags are full of generic assholes.

Chiefs have Joe, Marcus, DT, Smith, Carter, etc. Whoever did this is a genious and even got the player equipment right. Faces are computer-generated and coaches are wrong, but can't have everything.

The goal: get the Chiefs back in the SB with Montana at starting QB. Franchise will run until Joe retires. Not allowed to switch QBs.

LET'S DO THIS!

Had to edit a bunch of player portraits. Think I got pretty close. I believe these are the correct lineups.

Because that's the most realistic "Madden" position for him. He lined up at DE and OLB for the Chiefs but it's too hard to scheme that in Madden.

We ran a base 4-3 at that time. He was called "Falcon" in that defense because he could basically ad lib when he wanted to. He played mostly with his hand on the ground, but he would move up and around from time to time.

The Falcon bullshit wasn't until Gunther. Dave Adolph was DC in 1993.

I think you are probably right about the 4-3, but PFR has the Chiefs in the 3-4 that year. I don't think that's right.

BTW, I plan on taking this at least to 1994. I'm going to trade for Bono to be the backup in the offseason.

Yeah, good call on Gunther making him the "Falcon". I remember the silly article in the Star about it. Probably written by Teicher.

And I remember our starters on the d-line in that season were indeed Derrick, Neil, Joe Phillips and Dan Saleaumua.

So I've decided I want this to be as authentic as possible...which means no shotgun plays and no empty sets. I don't think Joe took a single shotgun snap his entire time in KC, and don't recall seeing a lot of empty.

I'm going to create an entirely new playbook of WCO plays. Regular old I-Form, split backs, far, near, 2, 3 and 4 WR singleback formations, strong and weak I.

The CPU won't have this restriction but I will try to pick an appropriate playbook for each team prior to every game. Ain't gonna be no read options.

I only have two WRs worth a shit anyway so...

Other rules:

Not allowed to go for 2
No QB sneaks (I don't ever remember Montana's brittle ass QB sneaking)
If I'm in a critical situation at the end of a game, I will play for the field goal
no ****ing bubble screens

Didn't they have Pellom McDaniels play the Falcon spot when DT was injured? That was really stupid.
