Will Mahomes injury have lingering effects?
Does anyone have any experience with a dislocated kneecap? I’m just curious if Mahomes ability to be mobile and productive outside of the pocket long-term will be negatively affected by this injury.

It will make him faster and add an additional 10fps to his velocity on long balls.

He's not going to be reversing field twice and hitting dudes in the endzone with a clunky stabilizing brace on his knee.

Pain tolerance will factor in as well.

O line will get practice on how to block for a less mobile qb this month.

If they arent up to the task, re-injury is a real danger.

I don’t have a dislocated kneecap but I have something somewhat similar but to a far lesser degree in patellofemoral chrondomalacia which a misalignment of the patella as it slides along the femur. For me, that is due to a muscle imbalance between my glutes and my quadriceps muscle and so everytime I extend my knee, the patella pulls off center and not directly over the thigh bone.

It can feel awkward at times, and whenever I plant my foot on the ground I experience a lot of stiffness in the knee joint but that condition is very manageable wearing a patella stabilizer.

I would hate to imagine a dislocated knee cap though. Mahomes will definitely feel a lot of stiffness planting his left leg. It could affect mobility but very slightly. But, snap it back in place, perhaps wear brace, exercise the muscles around the joint to strengthen the area, ice it to reduce any sort of inflammation, stretch it of course...He should be fine with good therapy. I would think.

I've been seeing suggestions that Mahomes just got ahead and get the surgery to re stabilize it, to keep it from popping out on a future hit, potentially causing more severe damage.

We need him for the long haul so hopefully he has some good advisors/doctors.

What you hope happens is that he doesn't miss a beat psychologically when dropping back and sees and feels the heat coming now knowing he was significantly injured but not permanently IR'd. Hopefully this will not make him gun shy(subconsciously worried about getting hurt when the heat is on) making him miss throws or not throwing at all or throwing interceptions.

Sometimes with athletes they discover they are mortal when they thought they were immortal and it screws with their head. I really don't think this will happen with Pat but you never know.

Pat only knows how to play balls to the wall, I don't think it will affect him once he's healed up.
