Have you ever used a personal trainer?

Long story short, my wife and I are both starting a new journey w/ fitness and food. We're seeing a dietician soon to get some help with the food part, but we've also been considering getting a personal trainer (either one for both of us or separate - either option is on the table).

Does anyone here have experience with one? What are some good questions to ask to make sure I get the "right" one? Any tips to set us up for success in this process?

Yeah those look awesome. Thank you.

Says only S and M though and my waist is 33" so I usually buy a large as the mediums always seem a bit too tight, especially on my glutes. Their medium says 32.5-34.5" though which doesn't normally equate to a medium?

I also have a 33 waist and the larges fit perfect...not baggy and snug enough that the legs will stay up if I hike them up around my quads when doing squats or lunges or something

There’s no larges on your link though. Only small and medium?

Oh, that sucks. Maybe wait until they make some more? There is a version with the little mesh underwear liner thing....maybe try that if the liner doesn't bother you (I can't stand them)

Hate liners too.

I’ll put on my list and see when larges come in.

Thanks.

It’s easier than that. Here is a plan for the whole year

Month 1: weights and cardio. Make sure to have a diet and drink water.
Ding Ding

We have a Weiner. Simple and effective.

All exercise and diet is mental. Just as Luv stated.

Do your stuff, daily, eat reasonable, ~30 min and make it a habit.

Each person has their own goals and likes. Tailor it to fit you.

The commonality is move/diet and stay with it. Or make it so complex that you will never be able to stay with it.

When you TRY and do right, there is always a lil computer in the back of your head saying "Do this, don't do that, can't your read the signs".

Draining.

As with anything in life it is mental...the 6" between your ears.

Accept it, get over it and do. Move on a understand that part of your life is going to be 30 min a day...of what ever you think is correct.

The people at Walmart should embrace the thought.

It ain't easy, takes will power, gumption...and for craps sake, fat people choose to be fat. It doesn't bother them because the accept it or blame a health issue, thus not their fault. Once you let it get that far, you = screwed. Your choice.

All the people posting on this thread at least are TRYING. That is better then DENIYING.

I lost a bunch of weight years ago. People kept asking me how I did it. I said "A lot of work". They didn't want to hear my answer. It is too hard. Then I got lazy and didn't care. I didn't make it a life habit. Everyone wants an easy "get rich quick" scheme, take a pill and the lbs will melt off.

Again, it is easy. 30 min move and don't eat a bunch of Big Macs with potato chips.

It is not a sprint but a life marathon. It took years to put on, have patience, will take awhile to get off. Patience is not a long suit for most humans.

Fat people don't care.

I do 20mins/200cals of cardio before every workout.
Wow, my goal is too do 20/200. Calories on a machine is very subjective. Are you rowing or what. A gal does the treadmill, she does ungodly cal/min.

Dunno, if that is your warm up, congrats. Blew by me.

It's nice to read a woman's perspective. I am always a bit sad to hear women are intimidated by the weights/weight section of gyms. I know a lot of it is in their own head, but I've heard stories of dudes being creepy too.
From my experience, I don't know if I just wasn't "cute" enough or if they just figured I wasn't intimidated, but the guys in the weight section never bothered me. It was actually the guys who spent more time on the resistance machines or treadmills that creeped me out. One time, I didn't think I was going to survive the row machine because the dude on the one next me stunk of cologne. GAG!

Rule of thumb for guys who go to the gym to hit on women: Yes, there are women who go to the gym to be eye candy. However, if you see a woman counting reps or working up a sweat, leave her alone. She's there to accomplish something, and it's not to land a date.
