*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

That 4th and 9 against the Ravens might be his best play. That one, the Tennessee run, and the left-handed pass are all just insanely good plays.

The Tennessee run literally had me jump out of my seat. Just created a seemingly impossible play out of thin air.

It’s was a huge play in the afc championship game that took us to our first Super Bowl too, so I’m leaning towards it for #1.

NFL’s analytics show how Patrick Mahomes has dominated since becoming Chiefs starter
Pete Grathoff

Patrick Mahomes took over as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback ahead of the 2018 season, and his list of accomplishments in that short period of time has been remarkable.

Here is a partial list: Two NFL MVP awards, two Super Bowl titles, two Super Bowl MVP awards, five AFC Championship Game appearances for the Chiefs and five straight AFC West titles.

The NFL’s Next Gen Stats, which provides advanced analytics, shared a look at just how dominant Mahomes has been since taking over as starter.

Mahomes’ Passing Expected Points Added (Pass EPA) in five seasons has been more than 200 points higher than any other quarterback in the Next Gen Stats era, which began in 2016.

That’s two years before Mahomes became the starter, although he did play in the 2017 regular-season finale at Denver.

Mahomes’ 2018 season ranks as the best in terms of Pass EPA, and he’s also had the fourth and fifth best seasons in the Next Gen Era. Here are the top five.

This is not related to Next Gen Stats, but I found this to be interesting. Mahomes has started 80 games in his career and the Chiefs have lost just two games by more than one score.

Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Stats shared that nugget and wrote: “(Mahomes’) ceiling is best in the NFL and his floor is such that even in his worst games he keeps his team competitive.”

Mahomes has a 64-16 record as a starter (.800 winning percentage) in regular-season games. Remarkably, there hasn’t been much of a drop off in the postseason. The Chiefs are 11-3 in playoff games started by Mahomes, which is a .786 winning percentage.
