Must Watch Series

All this talk about series, how network TV Sucks, and how hard it is to find quality shows, and some excellent shows that fly under the radar, I need a comprehensive review of all the series I need to see.

For good entertainment, I would be willing to buy DVD sets. But I've recently picked up HBOGO by kiping it from my parents, and recently got Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Here is a listing of shows that I currently own or have seen all the episodes of. If it isn't on the list, just assume I haven't seen it.

Spoiler!

Here is a listing of shows on my list to watch (mostly due to this thread)
Spoiler!

I work a ****ton, so it is hard for me catch a series while it is on to get it on the DVR, but I recognize the entertainment value and am willing to go after the Must See shows. Accordingly, I'm not necessarily looking for anything that is still running. I'm up for watching stuff that has run its course.

So what say you, Planet? Which shows should I see?

UPDATED for the shows I've seen recently.

Lego Masters is terrific.

Anyone watching Beforeigners on HBO Max? Season 1 was a bit slow, but season 2 has been great.

Kind of an odd show, but I'm enjoying it.

I watched Boardwalk Empire on the recommendation of Twisted Chief.

It’s worth the time if you have HBO for something else.

It does a LOT of things well. It manages a lot of personalities well. It does the period stuff awesome. Which I’m a total goober for. It mixes in some historical characters pretty well, and IMO does a really nice job with Lucky Luciano and Capone on later seasons. Also
Spoiler!

It had some pretty compelling characters. Richard Harrow was probably the best performed. Chalky was another one that just killed it.

It’s not perfect. It misses the mark on some stuff. About the middle of Season 3, goddamn everybody is unlikable and it became a tougher watch but pulled it back up and let you root for people again.

All in all it was a good one. Thanks Twisted.

Loved that show back in the day when it was current, then they discontinued it for some reason I think.

I can't recommend "Start Up" on Netflix highly enough. I did a search on here and nothing came up.

It took a while to develop for me, but wow it just seems to be getting better and more intriguing with each episode. Three seasons, I just started season two.

I got like 10 minutes in. I'll give it another look. Odds on my ADD kicked in.

It took a few episodes for things to start to come together. It is hard for me to stop now as the plots are so current it adds to the intrigue for me .

Maybe it is just my taste, I hate Scifi, horror and most foreign shows. I guess Hollyweird or American production quality has me spoiled.

I tried watching that Gamorah show on HBO plus and it made me want to scratch my eyes out. Even gave it 4 episodes I think.

Looked this up on IMDB. While it doesn’t sound up my alley, I found a show with the same name on Prime, starring Adrian Brody. That one sounds good, and have added to my watchlist.

The Righteous Gemstones continues to be another Danny McBride/Jody Hill masterpiece. After watching this weeks episode I’m pretty sure McBride was inspired by Rising Sun 1993 with Sean Connery/Wesley Snipes.

There are so many UTR movies or series that deserve watching with all the competition.

Really like so many of the reco's in this thread.

Well done!

Someone involved with that show is a musical and cultural SAVANTE. Capturing moods and eras with just the right touches and choices without being satirical or snarky. . . I mean a totally Xmas morning appropriate . . . Marlboro Miles SWEATSHIRT fer chrissakes?!?!? Genius

And whomever cast the younger versions of the Gemstone clan knocked it out of the effing PARK!! It almost seems like a spinoff of just the teens showing how the adults came to be how they are would work in it's own right.

EDIT - for those who skipped the credits, you missed an awesome credit music song [part of why I made the musical savante remark above], leaving it here for posterity . . . It's been in my head ALL WEEK.

Spoiler!

Is it me or does the kid that plays young Jesse look like Shawn Hatosy when he was younger?

It's past time, I think it has to be said somewhere. . . Mandy Moore's work as Rebecca on This is Us deserves recognition as one of the great network drama characters ever.

I have to admit, I never 'expected much' from Mandy Moore. For the longest I had some mental mixup where I confused, or melded, her with Jessica Alba, a similarly attractive woman of the same age, but significantly less talented.

Mandy inhabits the same character over a span of decades, often overlapping in the same episodes, and each instance is a fully realized chapter of the life of that character seasoned with heartbreaking and revelatory nuances across those decades.

And never once do you think 'there's Mandy made to look younger' or 'there's Mandy in age makeup.' It's reliably, 'that's young Rebecca' and 'that's mature Rebecca' and 'that's mourning Rebecca.' And all of it seems natural, and often doesn't even seem like the same actress.

It's a truly masterful performance . . .

I checked out The Gilded Age the other day. Saw Carrie Coon and gave it a watch, I think I will stick with it.

I'm a season behind, but that show is outstanding. It's nails that type of entertainment dead on.

And yes, she's really terrific.
