Jordan was a career 50% shooter from the field and 83% from the charity stripe. https://www.basketball-reference.com...jordami01.html But I realize this thread is the place to promote false narratives and ignore the actual numbers, so you just go with the flow . . . . . |

Never guessed that this thread would evolve into an NBA pissing contest.

Probably hit 90% of them when he was warming up, getting to his spots easy and taking uncontested shots with time to get into his shooting motion. And then as a college basketball season ticketholder I've watched a bunch of college games (and warmups). Those guys get open looks all the time and just flat miss 'em. A college kid gets an open look from 15 feet and if he hits it you're excited. A pro, even a 'lumbering' forward gets an open look from 15 feet and if he misses it you're surprised. The 'there's no defense' crowd wildly underestimates just how damn good these guys are at shooting the ball. But/for the insanely high level of defense played in the NBA, shooting percentages would be in the 60%+ range with regularity. NBA players are obscenely good at putting the ball in the basket. Pretty much any miss you ever see has something to do with them being rushed, harassed or challenged. Defense is a massive part of the game. |

And FTR, I've never been an NBA fan... I did try to get into it in the early-mid 90s, and of course by the mid-90s MJ was beyond his prime years... and whenever I'd check a box score, it would be something like 7/20 with a bunch of free throws. Obviously not at all indicative of MJ in his prime, even though I did happen to watch that one game where he threw that poor Jazz player into the stands from the top of the key before hitting an important three pointer. So, he still had much respect from the refs at that point in his career. Please don't ban me from the thread. |

The translation is that I'm a bandwagon hockey fan because I've followed the same team for 20+ years that has won all of 1 playoff series in the past decade-plus. You're not a real fan until all of your teams go 50+ years each without winning a championship. |

I won't watch hockey unless or until they legalize the Triple Axel Biscuit Bottle Rocket.
