Discussion: Who should we consider for our first rd pick?

It’s that time fellas! Little over 3 weeks out and it’s in our house!

I’ll put 2 options here.

1. Who do we pick if we sign a vet WR (Hopkins?) before the draft.

2 who do we pick if we don’t sign anyone else before the draft.

Who ya got?

Agreed, and you can throw EDGE in there as well, which is why we should be looking at BPA at OT/WR/EDGE as opposed to focusing on any single position.

Here's a partial list for 2022.

https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/list...rkout-tracker/

Notice how two of the CB's they visited with were taken in the 4th and 7th rounds, respectively? Notice which CB isn't on that list?

FTR, I'm not so much saying they shouldn't take a tackle as much as I'm saying I don't think they will.

Unless Wright or Harrison fall into their lap, you're probably right.

Make no mistake about it, the Chiefs did not give Taylor $80M to play RT.
Pretty much, if a guy who can be a 10 year LT falls in your lap at 31 fine, but this idea that we have to go LT no matter what is pretty stupid.

Also don't read into visits.

What if they think Niang or Wanogho can handle RT?

If Nolan Smith hits the #20 spot KC will trade up to pick him. If he doesn't then IMO at #31 the Chiefs will select Felix Anudike-Uzomah or Isaiah Foskey

Take someone else later, develop them, take someone already on the roster etc.

They just rolled with Wylie for a year, they can surely hang with Niang.

I don't think they have an abundance of faith that Wanogho can handle it for a season, given how they treated him lone half of play last season. But they probably think they can roll with Niang.

Veach drafts less for immediate weakness, and more for next-year rostering. But we have Niang for two more years! So we're not in a hurry to replace him, but it's probably on the menu next season as a top priority.

Right now, defensive tackle is literally -- literally barren next year. Jones hasn't been extended, and literally everybody else they have there right now is on a one-year deal.

DT is the only position that has no answers at this time, so that's where I think Veach will go.

I don't think the Chiefs want Jalen Carter -- I flat-out think they took Carter off their board, and Calijah Kancey doesn't make a ton of sense for a 1st rounder for a Spags team.

But I think Mazi, Benton, Bresee, and even Ika have a better-than-you-think chance.

You take a developmental swing tackle in the middle rounds. Why does it NEED to be addressed in the draft? They have their LT. They already paid him. And if they got by with Wylie for a year, I'm sure they can get by with Niang or someone like him.

They should be focused on all areas of need, not just one, and they should follow their board as well, in terms of BPA. If that means drafting a tackle in the 1st so be it but I just don't think that's gonna happen.

We could go DE and DT with our first 2 picks and you couldn't really argue that either, as long as we get good players it's fine.

If the first 2 picks are like Mazi Smith and Derrick Hall I'm not gonna bitch cause those are good picks that fit.

A big issue people should be noticing after the last year is how many times Mahomes hit the top of his drop and no one was open or his scrambling was because no one could beat coverage, pressure isn't all about the OL, sacks happen when guys can't get open.
Mahomes was constantly under duress from Joseph Ossai in the AFCCG. Orlando Brown Jr was getting chips every play and Wylie was getting beat. It wasn’t pretty.

In the Super Bowl the OL gave up hardly any pressure and we smoked their asses for 38 points (should have been 45)

The good news is that Taylor is a better fit at LT in this offense than OBJ ever was. If they can win a SB with OBJ at LT, they can damn sure win a SB with Taylor at LT. And even better, they actually might be able to put Taylor on an island, freeing up RB's and TE's to actually contribute to a play in ways other than helping out our tackles.

Say what you want fellas. This was just tiring watching this shit over and over again last year.

That’s not even counting the Colts game. That Bills game was certainly a traumatic experience from Orlando and Wylie. Good ****ing God man..
