For us older folks, that remember the A's before the Royals...

The Kansas City A's were basically a farm club for the Yankees. Management would sell our good player and prospects for terrible players. Some of the dislike comes from those days. Once the Royals were founded and ownership made it a top priority to acquire and keep talent, everything changed. The bullies of the playground, the Yankees, suddenly had a little kid that wouldn't take it. They punched back and wouldn't lie down like the A's did.

Add the fact that the Yankees, and other large market teams, are allowed to spend double what other teams do and acquire most of the talent, it's no wonder that they are despised and disliked.

So, there's a special place for the Yankees in the hearts of KC baseball fans. Burn in hell, you mofos.

I guess they're pretty good, east coast and all. You'd think theyr'e the best that'd ever been, and that's just not so.

ESPN shows the Yankees are starting Clarke Schmidt in Game 3.

I don’t know much about him but it seems like it’s rare for him to go more than 5.

Seems like 5 innings with 2-3 ER is about a typical start for him. His season long stats are pretty good overall, but only 16 starts.

Schmidt is an enigma and he's been around forever. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the first round of the 2017 draft out of South Carolina.

He's a talented pitcher that hasn't sustained success for long periods of time. This year he was set back by a shoulder injury but this was been his best season by far in the majors.

Schmidt can spin the ball, his best two pitches are his slider with sweeping action and knuckle curve. For the Yankees, it was either Schmidt or Luis Gil in this spot and Gil brings more blow up risk with his command issues.
