For as much shit as sf got, you gotta applaud them for moving on from garropolo and lance where many teams (cough cough… Carolina) would have forced the situation to work.
Also, if I'm the owner and the GM and HC have decided the QB they wanted and drafted in the top of the first is already shit after a year....why should I let them pick another one?

Waves happen with these trends and then a Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love happen
Well....yeah. The odds of the QB you take being an elite franchise guy are slim no matter where you get him.

Your odds are better the earlier you take him.

How many Qb's were taken early in the Christian Ponder draft? Didn't seem to discourage teams.

Best thing you can do IMO is look for a QB with a high ceiling, get a vet and solid coaching in front of him and then surround him with weapons.

It’s far easier to teach a Jordan Love high ceiling QB to read defenses and operate the system than it is a Mac Jones high floor QB to make impressive plays when needed.

The Packers need to be emulated by every team

Unless you're prepared to trade up into the top 12 and take a guy, just do that.
Hurts, Levis, and Purdy all went 2nd round or later fairly recently. Or are you suggesting that Purdy would have gone top 12 this year?!?

To be fair, I don't recall ANYONE thinking that Ponder would be worth a ****. That one was always a head-scratcher.

that’s the mentality that needs to change. GMs are gonna make mistakes and id rather they admit them than double down on them like trubisky or Bryce young. I’d rather bring in lots of competition than try to sell the world that Daniel jones was worth the pick all along. Qb is a hard position to get right and 90% of teams are gonna have a qb that probably can’t keep up with Patrick mahomes. Owners should give more grace for GMs to be persistent and aggressive.

So yeah, if McCarthy doesn’t work out in Minnesota try again and don’t wait 2-3 years. If he’s Kirk cousins 2.0 keep trying. Otherwise they’re wasting generational talent.

Actually I'll give the Bears credit for following that and not really doubling down. They didn't give Trubisky the 5th year option and let him walk, then drafted Fields. Cut bait on him early and moved on to the next guy in Williams. Just keep getting rookie deal QBs until one of them actually turns out to be a franchise guy. They just have a terrible history of drafting QBs but at least they take shots. That was always the most frustrating thing being a Chiefs fan until Mahomes, they wouldn't even take a shot because of one failed pick in 1983.

If McCarthy is Cousins 2.0, the Vikings should keep him for his career. Cousins has been a perennial top 10ish QB for a while.

If teams wanna keep chasing trying to find the next Mahomes or Josh Allen....well good luck. There's only 2/3 elite level QB's in the league at a time, at best.

In 2011 Blaine Gabbert, Chrisitan Ponder, Cam Newton and Jake Locker went in the top 12 of picks.

The position is too valuable, teams will keep taking guys high and churning and burning. Nature of the sport.

Jimmy G had nearly identical stats in 2019, took them to the SB year and the 9ers traded a couple firsts to go up and get Lance.

So I guess they answered the question for you.

Yep. It's arguably a flaw in the design of the sport. On a 53-man roster with 22 players on the field at all times, there is this one position that is all-important. And there are only like 10-15 people in the world who can play it well enough to give you a shot at winning anything meaningful.
