Especially if Breeland provides average CB play (about what we got from Nelson on balance) and Ward can even continue to play at the level he was at last season, let alone take a step forward in his development.

I still say that we'd have won that NE game with as much as Trey Boston in that secondary instead of the husk of Berry. Berry was the worst player on the field most of the day and Belichick seized on that in a big way.

The talent on this defense is firmly average. It isn't elite but it isn't god-awful. The LBs look bad in a vacuum but their usage will be so heavily matchup/situationally based that I think even that can be papered over.
Shit, I think Chiefs win if they play Lucas over HoboSpirit.

Really?

Because Jerry Jones is old, the 'boys haven't won anything in 20+ years and he thinks they can win now. Their interior LB play was incredible last season and removing a critical element of that does nothing to help them win a championship. Nor would removing their most versatile defensive back.

That's a really stupid thought and one that I'm certain Jerry Jones isn't having.

Agreed.

And Belichick is smart enough to know that had he just massacred Berry from the jump on every play, he'd have gotten yanked.

But BB just targeted him when he needed to. He rope-a-doped the Chiefs into not realizing just how washed up Berry was. And even THAT was enough to convince the Chiefs to cut him, IMO.

If Berry had played even average football in that game, I think we have a Lombardi in the case and I think Berry would still be a Chief. But he was so unbelievably bad that, once he gave them an out, they had no choice but to take it.

Fisher did pretty well last year against most of the pass rushers he faced. The only significant one who gave him real trouble last year was Frank Clark in that Seattle game. And now he's on our team.

Fisher will be fine.

Nepotism at it's best.....like even today, why is Sorenson running at 1st team FS when Lucas has better skills for that spot? It's like this team just has a hardon for some certain guys.

I understand why Thornhill isn't running with the 1's to start.....but really Lucas and Sorenson are kind of battling for that backup FS spot and honestly Sorenson playing a single high is a scary as **** thought.

True.

But if you can't sign one and tag the other (they can't) you may lose one for nothing. If that's the case and you like who's behind him, well, trade him.

Same thing with Jones.

I struggle to even get to nepotism.

It's 'great man' disease. When you work with someone who's been great and who has done amazing things, you so badly want them to still be great that you gaslight yourself into now seeing just how far they've fallen.

EB looked good for a half in that Chargers game but he looked awfully iffy in the Seahawks game. Alarm bells should have been ringing after that one. They should've been especially loud after a bye week couldn't have him ready for the Colts game.

And they should've been deafening a mere quarter into that Patriots game. But Reid wanted so badly to believe that Berry would shake the rust off and come through that he just couldn't believe his lyin' eyes.

There's no malicious intent there so it's not what I would consider nepotism. He genuinely convinced himself that Berry was going to be the best way to win that game. He was dead ass wrong.

Jerry being old is definitely a reason they won't move anyone. I doubt they would anyway, but if you were to be looking for a CB, Jones would be where i'd start.

Wasn't gruden pumping him pretty heavily in the draft as well? That was his last draft class as a talking head, right? He did the QB school with Mahomes in that draft.

I know we had a couple of folks 'round here on the draft forum that loved him for some weird ass reason.

That dude's awful.
