Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to return to Green Bay Packers, sources say
Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

The Packers are aware of his feelings, concerned about them and have had team president Mark Murphy, general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur each fly out on separate trips to meet with Rodgers at various points this offseason, sources told ESPN.

"As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond," Gutekunst told ESPN. "Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."

Rodgers has not budged this offseason, but neither have the Packers, who have made it known they are not interested in trading Rodgers anywhere.

The San Francisco 49ers called the Packers on Wednesday night, a source told ESPN, and the Los Angeles Rams inquired about Rodgers in January before they traded for Matthew Stafford.

The Packers quickly dismissed the Rams' overtures, the source said.

The Packers have offered to extend Rodgers' contract, sources told ESPN.

Rodgers is unhappy for a variety of reasons, with some of it dating back to last year's draft when the Packers didn't inform him before trading up to draft a quarterback with their first-round pick. Some took this as a sign that his days in Green Bay could he numbered.

He also is at a different point in his personal life, having recently gotten engaged to actress Shailene Woodley. Rodgers also has hosted "Jeopardy!" and said it would be a dream to become the full-time host. He could play football and host Jeopardy! together.

Rodgers has made cryptic comments about his future in Green Bay, but he has told others that he does not want to return.

On draft night, the Packers' biggest issue isn't who they land, but whether they can keep the former NFL MVP.

Rodgers' contract contained a $6.8 million roster bonus due in March. It could have been converted into a signing bonus that would have freed up more than $4.5 million in salary-cap space for this season but instead it "vested as scheduled," a source told ESPN at the time. It's listed as an automatic conversion in Rodgers' contract but even that has to be signed off on by both parties. It's not known if the Packers tried to convert and Rodgers refused to sign off on it, or if they did not attempt a conversion.

Yea my point is it makes no sense for Rodgers to leave what would ultimately be a better situation.

Yep. Not to mention Wash and New Orleans would be in the mix as well. And Miami could offer as much or more in the AFC. There's going to be a slew of teams in the mix for Watson. But, if you're going to trade the farm for a QB, Watson is the way to go.

During the Manning years, I said that winning a title would buy me time and I would be content for a bit... realizing it was a short-term window. They won it and while it's been a frustrating 5 years, it's still only been 5 years and I'm not too terribly interested in another short-term shot. And, as previously pointed out - he was a FA and Denver only had to give up on Tebow to get him. Pretty easy decision.

I think Denver has a good young team and while they lack at the most important position, I'm just not on board with these trade talks to acquire Rodgers.

He doesn't care about the football situation as much as the big picture.

He hates the Packers front office and wants to play out west. That's what it boils down to.

Trading the core of their team for Rodgers isn't a solution. It's different but it's not BETTER.

Thanks... it happens to most teams. You guys were there for a while, now it's my turn for a bit. I was 12 when I became a Denver fan, Elway's 2nd season... and it was a hell of a ride. Then, 13 seasons with a few decent runs until Manning. Now, I'm entering season 6 since the SB. I think they have a solid team right now after solid drafts and smarter FA signings for the most part.

It's a hell of a division though. We'll see how it goes.

Last place. 3rd place best case. I've been right, you know, a lot the past few years when it comes to Denver's misery. It's been pretty satisfying!

Second place for Denver would require really stupid coaching and a slew of injuries from the Chargers bordering on the unholy........so, yeah, it’s possible.

NFL.com predicted 8.1 wins for the Donks...so a 8-9 record keeps them comfortably out of top QB draft range. This will continue forever until they get a top 10 QB...

Even with a top 5 defense...they will never be able to consistently compete with the Chiefs/Mahomes.

Should have rolled the dice with Fields...Surtain isnt going to make them a contender. He would have been a great pick if they already had a QB.

Chiefs revamped o-line is going to put Mahomes back in the 45-50/5000 range. Doinks are going to have to score points..

I believe a winning strategy would be to trade for a Patriots backup. maybe get their front office guy.

Of course it's better. You have the QB, you can put pieces around him easier than you can add an MVP QB to a team.
